I don't want to plug up the other thread with this, so here goes: I pay ZERO attention to any hunting forecast apps, not sure I have ever seen one. I pay TONS of attention to Interstate 70. I have been driving the same stretch for the last 24 seasons. I don't expect it to ever be like 20 years ago, but it's a great deer movement monitor. During the cold snap around Halloween, it was painted red more than I have seen in years,as soon as it warmed up,no more paint. Personally, I would say movement in my area has been "average", with some days better than others. If "trickle rut" is a real thing,it makes sense to me that the next few years we should have some really great bucks running around. Reason being,if the does are coming in heat at a trickle instead of all at once, the dominant bucks SHOULD do most of the breeding. I have no proof to back any of this up, but it's definitely a possibility.

“Poor age structure leads to what I long ago called a “trickle” rut. It is characterized by a few does (usually the older ones) coming into estrus, then a delay followed by a few more. In most cases, the first does to achieve estrus are the ones that lost their fawns to poor nutrition.” www.drdeer.com/uploads/cms/nav-17-5801202c0f63b.pdf

I actually believe the sub-dominated bucks will breed as many does no matter what rate the does actually will breed a buck. Not as many mature bucks breed as many does as hunters believe. Junior is slipping in and doing the deed a lot of the time!

Junior is slipping in and doing the deed a lot of the time! You are right on the money. Same with satellite bulls when we elk hunt. The herd bull is worked up trying to keep all his cows and chasing satellite bulls. So when he is chasing one off. Two others sneak in and steal a cow or two.

You're right about the roads being a reliable indicator of deer movement! Every year you can see see things are heating up for both hunters and insurance adjusters.

I agree about the roads. Interstate I-64 from Evansville to my turn off on is about 60 miles. Two weeks ago my wife and I counted 12 deer hit, this last Friday we counted 1. Movement in that particular area has slowed. I have always used highway deer count as a reason to get into the woods.
