First day out this year, been a busy October. First time in 11 years I didn’t hunt a single day in October. On the plus side, I’ve had a lot of really good bucks show up on cams, might not be a bad strategy going forward Best to stay out of prime spots until around Halloween I’ve found out over the years. I agree 100 percent. Yesterday was my first day out except the Big Oaks draw hunt last week with Spam.

I would have quit at 0930...ain't no deer at jpg Boy you ain't lying. Cold front coming in. Drizzle all day. Heck of a spot. 2 deer seen. Both got a pass. Took sympathy on hornzilla and called it a day at 3. The misery kept me company. Thank you. Because it was a monsoon shortly after we left the gate. Lol

Dave is one of the best and smoothest drivers that I have ever watched or raced against.

If you want to worry about .002 of an inch have @ it. It's been explained, accepted and approved for use and that's good enough IMO. I have been a machinist my entire life. And have trained many incoming guys wanting to be one. I will say a majority of C.O.'s that would check a bullet couldn't accurately mic within .002 of a inch with a micrometer that they use very little. And even worse most would probably use a set of dial calipers.

My hunting buddy and I have finally decided that the sands of time have flowed enough and we are going to Colorado next September for an archery OTC, either sex elk hunt. We plan to go public ground but are currently looking into semi-guided hunts. I have questions. Are there any equipment must haves or don't bothers? Are there any flatlander must do or must don't? What 2 week period should we target in September? What do I need to be looking for in a pack? Are snake boots something I should consider? Any advice is appreciated. Snake will not be a problem. Don't except to kill a elk to have a good time. Buy a good tent. Any weather can happen. Get in shape. When you are. Get in better shape. Get a decent pack. Decent doesn't mean spending the family farm. Boots need to be broken in before hand. A compass or better yet a GPS. A means to start fire. Times two and a way to get wet weather fire going. Plenty of food. You will burn calories in the hills. Archery time. Last two weeks if September would be my choice And most importantly. Enjoy the mountains. I love it out there.

I'm game. If you want to hunt. Let's do it. I let my permission slip over your way but can probably get back in. I just never had time to scout. Long drive to not have birds to hunt but man when it is good over there...it is great. If you want to try Monroe with me too let me know. For sure. We will.

Well went and did my safety briefing and that is out of the way. It was a nice day for a Jeep ride. So my wife rode down with me. Then stopped on the way back in Bloomington for a elk burger. Nice way to spend the day.

Despite the past 15 yrs of waterfowling being a fading spot in my activities...I am getting somewhat excited about this year. Facebook reels and tictok clips of flocks of birds cupped and committed, lots of dove hunting this year, and more free time than I have had in a long time has me getting itchy for waterfowl again. Sorting decoys, bought a few more boxes of 3" 4-shot, setting up my a-frame blind. Looking for more decoys and different blinds. Someone punch me and tell me to wake up, I know I am delusional. But man the 1st 10 yrs of hunting a good area with great buddies is a hard feeling to walk away from. Tried many times. Quit smoking was easier than this. So who wants to hunt this year? I'm game. If you want to hunt.

Should have never been taken off the oval. Only thing more boring than a road course is drag racing.

My son and I blanked on everything except pheasant. We were pleasantly surprised we were both drawn this year. That never happens.
