Did some mini deer drives on a buddies property trying to get him one, and I found TWO mature 8 point deer skeletons within 300 yards of each other. Based on deterioration, I’d guess one was last year and one the year before.
Makes me wonder though ....
Ehd? Why no does or small bucks?
Poor shot placement and deer that weren’t recovered ?
People that shoot deer just for fun ?
All I know is that it made me sick to see two 3-5 year old deer skeletons rotting away. We did jump ANOTHER 8 pointer while walking the same exact area , so I’m confident we’ve found a honey hole.
The one from last year (older deer) will get cleaned up and put on my wall. The older skeleton was brittle and had been chewed up, so I left it to the animals.
Tapatalk won’t let me upload pictures , but I’ll try again tomorrow.

I think sometimes people shoot deer and if it doesn't drop in sight they don't look for it. Or maybe they find the deer and are disappointed with the size of the rack and leave it lay. I found a nice mature 8 point with a perfect slug hole through the chest. That deer could not have went far after the shot and I'm sure it left a good blood trail. It was on the property line. I found another similar buck in the same area a few years before with a slug hole through the throat. I would have been proud to kill both of those bucks. I guess my neighbor wasn't. They were both found before the coyotes got to them so I could easily see the shot placement.

They grandfathered in his permission to hunt when they purchased the property , assuming all was well with his ethics I spose. Both deer were found in clearing sort of spots. I guess it’s possible that he also “doesn’t eat the antlers” like the saying goes. Idk, but those are both gooood deer.

That first pic looks like a set that might have been in the late velvet stage when the deer died. Maybe it was an EHD casualty or some other non-hunting cause.

If that’s true, I may have found the pocket the other hunter doesn’t use 🤷🏿♀️ hard to believe no one saw those deer for years laying there otherwise.

Could they have been road poached?

Honestly, without seeing the full body, neither look like they've been there more than this year sometime.

Honestly, without seeing the full body, neither look like they've been there more than this year sometime. The bigger ones rack is near mint, minus some gnaws on the ends. Skull is super fragile and somewhat busted. The smaller one was very brittle and flexible at the same time lol I left it. I don’t believe that either deer are from this year, unless they both died weeks before last years shed. They definitely aren’t from this year post velvet , so I believe they’ve been there at least one year.
