I have either gotten softer or smarter. Zero deer sightings before noon and it's raining steady. I am heading in. We will see what this afternoon looks like.

I have been planning to return to the upper peninsula of Michigan the end of next week for another round of "Big woods deer hunting". I stay by myself in a little motel and only stop for gas. I bring my own food and microwave or cold sandwiches in my room. Would you guys think it's safe? I do, but I would like to hear your thoughts. I'm still on the fence.

I honestly don’t think there is as much skill today as there was back then now everybody has trail cams that you can run from your living room chair food plots the size of small farms scent control tree stands you could dang near live in ML and other guns that 200 yards or more is very doable. Crossbows and bows that shoot faster than my 870 did I know I’m getting older but I miss my 5 gallon bucket and my Fred Bear whitetail bow that took 5 seconds to go 30 yards and coveralls that I used to feed the pigs before I went hunting days I will admit I do enjoy some of today’s comforts in the woods and you’d have a hard time getting them out of my hands Idk maybe It’s me but hunting just doesn’t seem like hunting anymore Just a view from someone who’s been at for a long time I have killed my share in brown Carharts,in tree stands nailed into trees that were more dangerous than most new era hunters can imagine!

For where I hunt, WTHR is calling for 50% coverage Saturday, 40% coverage Saturday night, and only 10% Sunday then nothing for the rest of my time off. If you follow WTHR on Facebook, you know how accurate they are! LOL.

Newport was my very first draw hunt (1998),it was archery on the last weekend of gun season. I killed a 130ish 12 pointer and was home before Noon! That my friend, was a hunting accident! LOL Lol that was a good one! I worked there 2006 to 2009. When only employees could hunt. It was a great place to work and hunt Did you ever see the scrap book of the very first draw hunt they had? It was absolutely world class!

I hunted turkey run 2 years in a row about 12 years ago and saw 1 deer in the 2 years I hunted it. People who want to impose more restrictions are just kidding themselves that it will make a difference. I worked at Newport and they made you shoot a doe before your buck. It was easier said than done and resulted in party hunting. Newport was my very first draw hunt (1998),it was archery on the last weekend of gun season. I killed a 130ish 12 pointer and was home before Noon! That my friend, was a hunting accident! LOL

Anyone get McCormicks Creek? I got it last year for the first time, I scouted a couple times, found a decent setup and never saw a deer. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.

I have hunted a few of the state parks before but today when I went to set up stands in Potato Creek they made me pay to get in. I never had to pay before have any of you. Never, however when I was reading the details of my draw hunt,it did say something about paying to get in to scout. NEVER in the past has this been the case.

Been getting harder to get drawn for the last 5 or so years. Used to get drawn for everything I put in, lately it’s hit and miss. As far as state park hunts, this year I finally got drawn after an 8 year hiatus......not by choice. I got the early hunt at Shades, what did you get?

I have hunted MANY draw hunts and I am well aware of the rules. That being said, did they reduce the number of hunters at them this year? I was lucky enough to get a good state park draw, but nothing else. I have talked to several guys that drew nothing.
