I started watching the Best of Mossy Oak Mega Bucks 1, 2, & 3. Several things about it I truly enjoy.
1) They're not just trophy hunting. I've seen them take several 2 year old deer with plenty of excitement. 2) They are not blurring out other brands of equipment used. Several different bows, firearms and optics (including the old Simmons brand). 3) They're not plugging sponsors every two minutes. Although they do some minor promotion of the mossy oak brand.
They're even smoking deer with old wheel bows with fat aluminum arrows. You can definitely see the huge transition hunting has made over the years.

I still got some old VHS and DVD's of same era. Those are a hundred times better to watch than today's crap. I cant watch the new ones anymore due to everything you mentioned. I prefer guys like the hunting public and catman on youtube.

Dan Fitzgerald was "The Man"! Yes, I still got a few of his. He was so original and down to earth back in the day. Happy to shoot any deer. Funny when they went to Mathews bows and they still shot instinctively. Had a lot of good common sense tips.

I honestly don’t think there is as much skill today as there was back then now everybody has trail cams that you can run from your living room chair food plots the size of small farms scent control tree stands you could dang near live in ML and other guns that 200 yards or more is very doable. Crossbows and bows that shoot faster than my 870 did
I know I’m getting older but I miss my 5 gallon bucket and my Fred Bear whitetail bow that took 5 seconds to go 30 yards and coveralls that I used to feed the pigs before I went hunting days
I will admit I do enjoy some of today’s comforts in the woods and you’d have a hard time getting them out of my hands Idk maybe It’s me but hunting just doesn’t seem like hunting anymore
Just a view from someone who’s been at for a long time

I remember hunting out of a Baker Mitey-mite treestand and wearing trebark camo.
I thought it was all so high tech...

I love older hunting videos for the reasons you describe and more. I don't know why folks like Realtree and Primos don't put compilations of old hunts on Youtube more often. They'd be massive hits. Probably because of changing sponsors.
One thing that has become epidemic among deer hunters both on and off video is what I call the "apologetic disclaimer" for a deer they just shot. Statements such as "Not the biggest buck but I'm proud of him" or "Just a doe but meat in the freezer," for example. I wish folks could just hunt and not worry about judgement. For a lot of us-probably most-- finding the time and opportunity to kill a doe while dealing with work, kids, & life in general is a solid accomplishment. In a world where people have to go into counseling when they encounter a different political opinion, taking your own food is reason enough to be proud.
In a lot of these old videos they are taking deer you'd never see on tape today. It's refreshing.

I always liked the Wensel brothers. Still read their articles. Barry Wensel wore his hat sideways. He said he did that so that the deer would think he was looking the other way. I liked Roger Raglin. The way he would tell his stories and keep getting more and more fired up as he told them...and his catch phrase "oh, man!"
