Got in the truck to go, and it wouldnt go! Tracked it down to a blown fuel pump fuse. Headed out now. ๐ Aww jeez. If it ain't one thing!1 I wonder what caused it to pop? The glimmer of hope is that fuse was rusted and it actually came out in two pieces. The truck is immaculate clean, and the fuse box is same. All other fuses look clean. So, hoping it was replaced with a used one at some point, got road salt on it, or some other kind of fluke. Not that a fuel pump cant go bad at 56k miles, but it is very rare from what I have experienced. Let me tell ya, it wasnt a pleasant feeling when my baby just cranked away with no fire!

Had a gobbler come into our lane about 150yd away. I gave a couple Yelps, and he froze for a few minutes. He finally moved and I stopped him again, but he wouldnt commit. It gave Luke time to get situated and perked him up. That was 45min ago, and nothing else since. Not a single gobble so far. Blind is filled with skeeters, and the wind is building now. Starke county Ya wannt borrow a Thermacell for the blind? I have a few. I have a few. Wasnt expecting skeeters, first of the year.

The wind is getting out of hand. Several branches falling. Time to go. Pulled camera card on way out, our birds all all late afternoon. So, will assess weather later today and beyond.

Working with my boy now to instill good values, ethics, and show him what keeps my enthusiasm high in our outdoor passion. He is way more patient than I ever was growing up!

I have always been a Mossberg fan. I have owned, and still own, several. This is the first one that has given me any issues. It's also the first autoloader I've owned. I now have a bad taste in my mouth for both. Had Mossberg's customer service been a little more friendly, I might not be as upset at the brand. In all reality, I have had several issues with this gun and they have been of no help to me. From a busted forearm retainer, broken mag plug to the not cycling at all issue. I hope the gunsmith can fix this gun so I can sell/trade it with a good conscious. It will no longer have a home here. Yeah no place in your life for a gun you can't trust. It will always be in your mind. Really no need for a dedicated turkey gun to be an auto. Lots of turkeys killed with single shots, and probably more with pumps. Maybe you said you used it for geese too? That's different. If you really like that gun, maybe look for another? Maybe you got a lemon. I'd read a forum or two for reviews and troubleshooting. I learn a lot from everyday Joe type reviews on alot of stuff.

He was about a hundred yards away from me but too much brush to see him for about an hour. He would answer every call I threw at him but he wouldnโt come any closer. I must have finally talked dirty enough to him he finally came in on a straight shot. Took him at 50yds with the old 10 ga. Now on to Michigan. Most excellent my friend!!! Congrats!

It's just as much your property to hunt as his. Ran into the same thing hunting MFL lands in Wisconsin. The neighbor thought the MFL lands was his and his alone to hunt. Even stricter than HNF, all stands have to be removed at the end of the hunting day. He put up a ladder stand where my buddy has sat in the woods for 25 years. So my buddy didn't hunt that spot, I set up 200 yds away for the first 3 days of the season and the stand was never used. Warden was called, he removed the stand. I agree, call the office and report it and if it's still there in a week, call the local warden and report it. I am perfectly fine if everybody plays by the same rules, I am NOT fine if they don't. It's public property, not private, and we all own a piece of it. Same with the park hunts. I figure it's first come gets the spot. I will gladly move if someone is there before me, but if I'm there and someone puts up a stand after mine is there, too bad, I'm hunting mine. I put flagging tape on mine so it's visible and lock it to the tree. So, they can't say "I didn't see it." My last park hunt info letter said you now have to put your contact info on every piece of flagging tape you put out there. Could you imagine that? Lol.

Excellent. Afternoon birds are lonely and curious, good time to win them over.

Snuck in on where the birds have been roosting a little bit closer this morning. This is a pretty good size group of birds and it seems like they donโt want anything to do with the decoys. After they moved off, I went back a couple hours later, and moved the blind right in close on them. Unfortunately, when I got back, there was at least one Tom and two hens right where I was putting the blind. Hopefully nudging them off with the truck wonโt affect them too much. I We have abandoned any decoy use. Just too many negative outcomes. Just a Yelp or two and let them come looking.

Apparently my setup is good! Bird in the field, right at my blind. Just wrong kind. ๐๐คฃ

I should have brought my thermos to the blind! Snacks (lots) and a big thermos of coffee is a must have for blind hunting.. Normally yes, but I'm at the public land draw hunt. Lots of variables to contend with, pack in and out, long walk, time limit, etc. Most importantly, it's not supposed to be 28deg in turkey season with this global warming crisis. ๐

I moved to my back up spot. Nobody parked anywhere to be seen, so I went for it. Been seeing birds about every time in this far field.
Running lean on time. Either finish out as long as possible, take advantage of the nice weather and forego my nap, or risk tomorrow since the weather is supposed to turn crappy. I'll give it an hour and assess then.

My buddy was finally able to connect on a gobbler yesterday. The majority of the day was birdless but, finally around 3pm we were hearing lots of gobbling and we had several encounters. When we were giving up and heading out, he spotted a red head in a tall wheat field. Then another one. These two toms were bedded in the field. Just popping their heads up occasionally. They were in the middle of the field and a good 150 yards from us. He decided he wanted to try and stalk them, which he did successfully. He got within 20 yards, stood up and the toms got up and bolted. Only one made it to safety. Fun to watch! That's cool. Congrats to him!!! Gotta be super stealthy for dang sure.
