I'm hoping to take the crossbow out one last time before the season is over, but we have yet to see if that will happen. We all caught some nice "stuff" over the holidays. A lot going around, have 3 friends with Covid.

Merry "belated" Christmas! Wishing everyone a prosperous 2024. Got rid of the right hip on the 20th....all went well, just pretty stiff but gaining mobility each day. Start PT today. Good luck with your recovery.

In your spare time you might want to explore other options near you. I have to agree, put some feelers out.

What do you think? Same buck or not? On my food plot this week.. Early in the season a half mile away . Definitely the same buck. Short g-3 on the right side and slight blade on the end of the left main beam.

I must have really put the hurt on them last year. I have had my traps set for over a month. This is the first activity I’ve had in all that time. Female!!

This spike followed 2 does across the bottom of the hay field east of me and they entered in front of the other blind just after 4:30 pm. The does fed around the creek bottom while the spike headed back south along the creek. The does finally moved south into the thick creek bottom and suddenly all 3 ran up a saddle that deer often use to get up on the ridge about 50 yards out. The does headed directly for my blind and looked like they were going to walk right by it. The spike peeled off a little like it was going to head back down the saddle and I went ahead and took the shot at about 35 yards. I usually stay off the shoulders as much as possible and have taken head shots on does and button bucks that close. There was just so much brush that my only open shot was high shoulders. Heard a lot about that shot, but never took it before because we use the shoulder roasts and blade steaks in with the roast. When I touched the trigger, he went nowhere but down. Shooting a CVA Scout V2 45/70 converted to smokeless muzzleloader. Load for this year was 55 grains H4198 and 200 .40 caliber Hornady SST in a Harvester smooth blue .45 sabot. I had used that bullet before in a sabot for a .50 bp muzzleloader and really liked it. First time using it in a smokeless and I still like it! 😎 Nice looking spike.

So if it has not passed to humans despite several areas having positive results...it is almost given that some folks have eaten infected deer. Are they testing 100% of the deer when it is found? Not sure what I would do but feels like a psychological impact more than physical. A very very small % are tested in established CWD areas. I have read of (and hunted in) areas of Wyoming and Colorado where it’s been estimated at 30% or more prevalence. By those odds, I have probably eaten a CWD positive animal or two. I just think of the thousands of CWD deer eaten every year by people, bears, wolves, coyotes, etc. and it has not jumped the species barrier yet that we know of. People are a lot more likely to die of food poisoning from the slice of lettuce they put on their deer burger than from contracting CWD. I agree, I’m sure I have eaten CWD meat after all the meat I’ve consumed from infected areas. When it first came out I was really worried about it, don’t hardly think about it anymore.
