Just pulled my muzzleloader out and checked to see where it's. I'm saying it's still on at 100. Nah, still needs to be tweaked lol

Just pulled my muzzleloader out and checked to see where it's. I'm saying it's still on at 100. Funny...right where my first shot went last night with my CVA Scout 45/70 muzzleloader conversion. Adjusted 3 clicks left and 2 down. Hung up the center of a clay pigeon from the target hanger @ 100 yards and drilled it with the T/C Encore 45/70 conversion. There was about a 1" piece of the pigeon left and I hit it with the next shot from the CVA. I'm going to let my daughter use the CVA when we go as it has the radial muzzlebrake on it. Easily half the recoil of the T/C conversion.

He would take old clay poker chips and hang them from packing tape. If you hit the center with a 22, it would make a hole. If you hit the edge, it would turn to dust. Good memories sitting in the garage laid over a pool table with 22 rifles laying on phone books. Plinking clay chips.

For the OP: I use a CVA Optima. It is about six years old. My owners manual recommends White Hots and Powerbelts so that is what I use (I use 245 gr). I've never tried anything else and am happy with it. I use w209 shotshells for primers. The following link is an o ring that someone on a message board recommends but I have never used. It sounds appealing. You use the o ring under the primer. Supposedly it helps prevent smoke pushing back out the backside and keeps the gun cleaner. If you ever decide to use Blackhorn powder you will need a different breach plug. Good luck. www.mcmaster.com/9262K611/

Easily half the recoil of the T/C conversion. I was going to make a slight adjustment but chose not to. I was shooting straight from the east to the west. I had a solid wind out of the south at 11mph. I assume the wind pushed it a tad so I opted to leave it be.

I assume the wind pushed it a tad so I opted to leave it be. If just checking sights from year to year, one shot like that is good enough for me and I'm done. If I were actually sighting it in for the first time, I wouldn't even make a single scope adjustment until I'd fired three shots, then use the group center as a reference for point of aim.

Curious to how often everyone cleans out the barrel when sighting your muzzleloader in? I’ve read it shoots better after a few shots, and also not to shoot too many without cleaning

If a 50cal, you have to use a heavier bullet like 300 or 325gr. Otherwise, you wont light it off dependably. Its a slower burning powder, but fps is significantly higher. You need a very snug fitting bullet to ensure ignition of either h or imr4198. Viht vv110 or AA5744 were both approved powders by Savage that are comparable to sr4759 in the 10ml2.

It's a Henry Ball custom .50 cal 10ML2 . Thanks for any info. Nice! The originator! One thing I have seen and lived... if shooting H4198, .458 bullets in Harvestor black crush rib sabots, or MMP orange .458 x 50 are the go to combos. I've tried about every .452 combo, but could never get to shoot acceptable. In a 50 cal, 67-70gr of H4198 with a 300gr or 325ftx in sabots are the nuts! It kills on both ends tho. Will get that load going avg 2400-2520fps and allow 300yd shots. You need to be using CCIM or Fed 209A primers, no exceptions You would be easiest to switch to vv n110. Similar powder weight to what you would be shooting with sr4759... up to 44gr with 250gr bullet, 42gr with 300gr bullet. Used that and works excellent. If you have that gun, you are familiar with barrel cooling between shots so you dont blow sabots?

thanks , have enough 4759 for this season but definitely need to try something different for future. Appreciate the feedback from a shooter with experience ! I have some VV110 that my wife shoots in her ML10-2.She wanted a mild load so we set her up with 38 grs behind a 250 grain hornady SST.

With the problems with Russia I have heard that it is hard to get Vitavouri powder. Have you had any trouble finding it ?
