At the risk of sounding like an idiot, are the pellets the same diameter as the bore? You don’t drop them in and mash them down, right? Good video.. youtu.be/3DTSVriOP3gThat makes sense. For now I think the pellets should be fine. Down the road I will probably experiment with different loads.

If you have to use percussion caps see if you can get some RWS caps. They are the hottest I know of.
Also with caps I recommend using real black powder. It ignites the easiest of all the powders. Hard to find, Thomlinson in Chrubusco has it. (At least they did)
Regardless what you choose as a propellant remember this little ditty Shooters if for better scores you thirst For God's sake load that powder first.

Here's my muzzleloader of choice. Savage ML-II with PacNor .45 cal barrel and an Allen Precision Shooting Muzzle Brake on it. It makes shooting it a LOT more pleasant. Pittman 300 grain 45 cal Aeromax bullet. I'll break out the chronograph tomorrow to see how fast they are running. No sabot, just sized to the bore. The powder giving them a kick in the butt obturates them so they engage the rifling. That's a great looking gun!

Man, for whatever reason I never even thought about getting a muzzlebreak installed on my ML....that might just have to happen.

Got both of my guns shot and confirmed. Two high performance smokeless muzzleloaders.
One is set up for shorter range in the woods. Savage 10ml-2, PacNor 45 barrel, 40cal Barnes 195bx, Harvestor light blue sabot, Weaver Classic Extreme 4x16x50 scope, VV N120 powder.
Other for longer range in fields. Rem 700ml, PacNor 45 barrel, 45cal 275gr Parker Match Hunters smooth sized, Weaver Classic Extreme 8x32x50 scope, H4198 powder. +4" high @ 100yd, +2" @ 200yd, -10" low @ 300yd.
Let the fun begin. 😎

My 270 I pushed that out To 400 for WY actually went to 500 just for fun it surprised me just how close I could group at that range whole lot of drop at that range

I chrono'd the load today when verifying the POI of that Savage with that bullet. The 300g Pittman Aeromax bullet clocked 2710 fps 12' from the muzzle. That's the reason for the brake. Recoil is a bit stiff without it with the hard rubber buttpad that is on the stock.

Can primers not be shipped? Or are they just really hard to find?

Can primers not be shipped? Or are they just really hard to find? Yes, primers can be shipped from a retailer, but the buyer has to pay a hazmat fee and they must ship via ground. A friend of mine bought a muzzleloader last night with a #209 ignition system, and the shop would only allow him to purchase 100 primers -- and that was only because he bought the rifle. I guess #209 primers are scarce right now. It's certainly not economical to ship small quantities of primers.

Can primers not be shipped? Or are they just really hard to find? Primers can be shipped Hazmat, and YES they are the hardest reloading component to come by last few years. They are starting to show up more often now tho.

Can primers not be shipped? Or are they just really hard to find? I would try calling all the local Gun shops in the area and see if they can help or recommend who may have some nearby… I would get and use what ever you can find. Make sure you tell them what your wanting them for also

They are starting to show up more often now tho. Really gotta watch buying online. Only buy from big, reputable companies that are well known. Ask me how I know? Sad to admit it, but to help anybody else out, I'll fess up. When components got scarce last time, the ONE time I bought online on an impulse, I got taken on 2 bricks of primers. I KNEW it was too good to be true, but thought maybe I stumbled onto them before anyone else. Lol. Should have known. Lost $125 toward 2 bricks of rifle primers. 🙄🙄🙄
