I'm not sure how to feel about this. There's a sense of selfishness I think in saying it's all mine but at the same time it's kind of cool to have people coming out of state just to hunt in Indiana.

I hate seeing these kind of articles but the "secret" has been out for awhile, time to start charging non residents appropriately.

I can't remember how many magazines that "reported" just last year how the herd was decimated in Indiana...
Anything to sell magazines....

Anyone up for a non resident lottery draw? lol I'd be up for a resident lottery draw. I have to disagree there, at least for owners of private land.

WOW, have times sure changed over the years. When I began to Deer Hunt, Doe were the sex that was totally protected, with good reason. This allowed Indiana Deer Herd to grow; but now days there seems to be more protection afforded to Bucks.

these out-of-staters are coming here and paying big money for managed leases or hunting with outfitters that manage huge leases to get around our firearms pressure. It really works out where I hunt because there ends up being huge blocks of ground around me that see little to no hunting. I'm all for it.

Well I know how I feel about it! The more coverage this gets the more out of staters will be here. That entices the land owners to lock up a contract with outsiders and the local guy that's had permission there for 50 years is out another place to hunt. It will get to the point if you don't own the land you will be hunting on public land only unless you have the money to compete with the outsiders. You can't really blame the farmer when the kind of money being paid for hunting rights in some cases exceeds what he makes per acre off the crops. We have little "patch type fields here. About 35 acres total so the crop lease was low, only $60 an acre. That's only $2100 annually off crops. With the rest of the land the total acreage is 87 acres. I'd bet you could get near that money on a hunting lease and never turn your hand. This is going to hurt the local people that don't own their own land. Wade

Any buck taken was a positive big deal whoever the harvester came from. Big bucks have been taken every year since I've been hunting. Back in the better days, Hunters were grateful and respectful to each other.

I was browsing through a certain FaceBook page and came across a post about big bucks being killed .... silly me thought that nothing that group could say would surprise me anymore. I was wrong.
