Prior the OBR when we could tag two bucks could you tag a buck in firearms season and the another in muzzle loader season? can't remember , or did it only have bearing on those who used a bow and later a gun in firearms season. The data jjas posted shows exactly what the OBR has did and that's is taking away the bow hunters ability to harvest one in archery and another in firearms. The OBR did not have any factor at all for the gun only hunter. At least this is how I read the figures. All this really doesn't even matter, The OBR is here to stay IMHO and soon maybe a new ODR (one doe rule)LOL I think there was one year where the DNR screwed up the regulation wording and we could kill one with a bow, one in firearm season and one in MZ season. That was corrected the next year. Most of the years prior to the OBR it was one with archery equipment and one with a firearm OR MZ. Jim Mitchell (DNR Deer Biologist) said at the time of the beginning of the OBR trial that the age shift to older and bigger bucks had already begun. He claimed that was due to an aging deer hunter that has become more selctive. At that time he also stated that there were about 6,000 "double dippers". Will we ever go back to a TBR? I doubt it. The pro-OBR comes up with the survey stating a 70+% acceptance of the OBR. Never mind that it has a 30+% bias from hunters that only hunt one season - firearms. Those hunters are no affected by an OBR and they have a lot to gain from it.. Want to ease up on the doe harvest? Go back to a TBR.. one with archery equipment and one with a firearm OR MZ. .

And to be FAIR we really don't have a TRUE OBR in Indiana as you can kill a additional buck in URBAN ZONES, additional BUCK or BUCKS in military refuges and additional BUCK or BUCKS in state parks. I say additional BUCKS as one could travel to multiple state parks or wildlife refuges and take a additional buck at each one I believe this is the case.

Some folks go fishing to enjoy the day out of doors, some go fishing to catch a meal others go fishing to win a contest. As long as there are plenty of fish of various sizes I don't care what "YOUR" reasons are for fishing.

Not long prior to OBR, doe tags were much harder to get too
And gregghopper, its not a mindset...it cold hard facts, undeniable numbers and stats back it up. No bucks were saved by OBR. buck harvest increased not decreased
Don't really matter to me. Even prior to 2002 I would never shoot two bucks on my farm.

Only if one has a spot to hunt in the "Urban Deer Zones". Try finding a place to hunt there now. Then one has to get drawn for the park or refuge hunts and usually fight a crowd. I haven't put on for a park or refuge hunt in a longtime, but I always thought you were limited on how many you could out in for? .

There is a limit on how many you can put in for, several hunts you are allowed to be a "buddy" on multiple occasions.

Well I know that several BUCKS lives were saved on my farm because of OBR over the years. Can't speak for others properties but this I am 100% certain.

I'll refer y'all back to the yearly buck harvest numbers....You show me where bucks were saved I could give several examples of bucks I passed through the years because I had already tagged my buck in archery season and wasn't allowed a 2nd buck. 2 come to mind that I ended up harvesting one the following year and the other 2 years later. Verifiable with trail cam pic's and video. Others that come to mind were 3.5 year olds maybe on border of shooters to me, that I let pass knowing I would be done buck hunting for year if I shot. So passed waiting on a more mature buck. Some of those years I ended up with no bucks. In the examples the BUCK, sometimes multiple BUCKS lived to pass their genes onto herd for another season or possibly many seasons . Yes some of those BUCKS were probably harvested by another hunter in area , but hey that's another benefit of the OBR. Spreading the love with others..

Going back to TBR with our current seasons and crossbows and hpr's, really? You honestly can't be serious. Yes, hunters would ease up on the antlerless, but within a few years we would be right back to the 90's with roaming herds of antlerless and 1.5 year old bucks being the majority of the buck harvest. No thank you. Now, if the firearms seasons were shortened and moved later, two bucks could be done again without completely destroying the quality of hunting. SMH

I've got a wall full of racks that are between 110 and 130 or so. I really felt cheated that some guy close would kill a good deer and I never did. That all changed back in 2009 or 2010 when "Big Ugly" walked in from of my crosshairs.I measured him green gross at 167. That's what it took for me. I haven't killed a buck since.I let a lot of them walk now and I don't feel like I"have to get a big one".If I do I do. If not I shoot does. Wade

I don't mind having the outfitters and their clients hunting around me. They are typically selective about their harvest, holding out for 130" and bigger stuff and might shoot one doe, while the local dudes want to fill 4 doe tags and shoot anything brown. Yea but how many are shooting "one Doe" and how many are shooting that One buck might want to rethink that , or maybe I should !!

Anyone up for a non resident lottery draw? lol I'd be up for a resident lottery draw. I'd be up for charging out of state prices for out of county hunters. Let people do their hunting at home.
