Got into my blind 45 minutes before legal, temp was 46 degrees with a NW wind, overcast with light fog. Hunted till 10:00 never saw or heard a bird decided to get my mule and load up my blind because I am going take a few days off to look for mushrooms and I will be on Lake Erie Monday.
After I loaded up everything I decided to drive around the woods that I was hunting in front of, it's about 7-8 acres in size. Just as I rounded the corner there were 2 long beards standing right in front of me about 20 yards away I watch them walk into the woods and I start kicking myself for leaving early. Suddenly I get this idea that I might be able to run around to the other corner which has a long food plot running parallel to the woods and maybe I might get lucky. I race around to the far corner grab my gun slam 2 shells in it grab a call a mask and I run to a small tree along the outside edge of this food plot facing the woods a distance of about 20 yards. I called several times during a five minute period with no response when suddenly out walks the 2 birds about 30 yards away and the rest is history for this 2016 season.
The bird weighed 24.1 pounds had matching 12.7 millimeter spurs with 2 beards one 10 1/4" the other was 4 1/4" I WILL TAKE DUMB LUCK OVER SKILL ANYTIME.

Just got setup for an afternoon hunt. I'm at my sis in laws parents. It's only 20 acres but usually has birds. This is the 4th year in a row I've found a dust bowl in the middle of a quad trail on the middle ridge. Nothing as of yet, but hopefully it changes.

Congratulations Featherduster!
All the hard work we put in and get nothing and then sometimes one just falls in our laps.
We'll take it!

Going to try a new spot tomorrow. Already called in two for youth on the farm I usually hunt. Don't want to take anymore off until my buddy i hunt with every year comes down. Had a customer offer for me to hunt his 80 acres for a couple dozen eggs. About 15 minutes from the house. I called him tonite to get the okay and he said, sure. There have been two big gobblers roosted behind the barn. It's all woods and from what he's told me all the landowners around there don't allow any hunting. Hopefully it'll turn out good. Least I'll hunt until I get wet and throw in the towel. I took off the last week, same as I always do so I have plenty of time.

Hope, they do bag their Tom too. Glad to see others here, on this forum, are having a good Turkey Season, better than my attempt to bag a Tom this season. I have been seeing the same three Hens out in my backfield just about everyday, but have not heard ONE Gobble, since opening day. Strange season this year. Might give it another try during our December Season, but usually Turkeys are hard to hunt that time of the year.

I have fired up bird over here! He has probably gobbled 20 times already! Threw me for a loop bc I hadn't seen or heard anything on this side of the property the last few days. I made a mad dash to get a little closer. Hoping all goes well, fingers crossed!

There's a hen yelping fairly close. Called to her and she answered back. Gonna shut up and sit tight a while. Maybe she'll bring something by here...

Stupid turkey pitched down the wrong way. His loss, I was going to give him a free ride in my vintage dodge ram! Lol

Still lots of gobbling going on. At least 3, possibly4 gobblers sounding off. Had one come out about 150 yards, strut a little and the back into the woods he went. Only thing that'd make this morning any better would be wrapping my tag around a turkey leg.

Hen worked in real close. Never did see her but she was 60-70 yards in front of me in some cedars. Haven't heard her for a bit now. Guess she moved on. Radar shows I probably have another hour or so. We'll see what happens.
