Another fun hunt! My last morning out and things finally came together. Birds didn't start gobbling until 5:15. He finally came down with a Jake at 5:45. They began angling way away from me. I knew it was do or die so I left my gear and literally ran 150 yards around the small patch of woods to cut them off. I had to belly crawl 30 yards around a hill with tall wheat to get them into view. The Jake made the first appearance at 25 yards and at 6:00 he was done. My first successful stalk on a bird. What a fun hunt! Nice job.

Got into the woods at around 8, I plan on staying through early afternoon.
Saw a roadkilled otter on my way in.
Caught a glimpse of a turkey on my walk in, ducked into the brush to sneak closer, but when I got there it was nowhere to be found. I called a little bit, gonna sit here awhile and see if it/they come back through.

Turns out the bird I saw on the way in was a hen, bumped her when I went to move spots.

Got set up with 30 mins to spare no gobbling I happen to stand up and there they were about 75 yards away so we called very gently but then a hen flew down and took them away. We sat in a overgrown tree line in the rain and wind till 9:30 then decided to call it a day.
We have devised a sure proof and diabolical plan for tomorrow.

Talk about weird. I was just now walking a fenceline, and spot 4 people over on the private side walking through the woods talking to each other. They were wearing long hooded capes, 2 black and 2 brown. They were each carrying some sort of long stick or staff. They looked like the druids you see in the movies.
Honestly, you can't make this stuff up...

Well.........turkeys don't understand the meaning of the word "DIABOLICAL".My grandson and I got next to a tree that we thought was very near yesterdays ROOST tree however they roosted in a different tree last night. We were in place 45 mins before legal and at about 5 mins till they started gobbling all over the neighborhood we heard birds a 1/2 mile away. Our birds flew down and slowly started working toward us and at about 15 yards from our kill zone they smelled a mouse and slowly departed. It was great first year for my 10 year old grandson and grandpa also.

I finally quit hunting for my self and snuck over to where he was to see if I could get it in for him. I didn't have any luck either. Yelps, cuts, purrs didn't matter. Talkative guy too; couple of times we thought he might come in but in the end we gave up. He was only 80-100yfs away but he was off the property so we did what we could. Gave it up he wins
