well?? How'd your hunt go? Had a good hunt but nothing close in the morning. Afternoon hunt was a blast! Sat for a while quietly then spot a tom and hen 150 yards out. I managed to stalk them for 300 yards. Closest I got was 60 yards but, ran out of real estate. Fun hunt though! 60 yards is suppose to be an easy shot with the longbeard xr's but, I was risking it.

They got to within 60 yards and then crossed a ditch and went up through the woods . They were all nice bodied jakes. I glassed and glassed hoping one was a long beard.. No such luck..
If a Warrick county gobbler wants to get shot by me he has two hours to get it done....

First off the story. I will have my son post picture for me later. That's to high tech for me. Lol Morning started off as a disappointment at first woods. Quarter mile hike in. And nothing, not a sound. Stood there and decided that I was going after a bird today. I wasn't setting and sight seeing today. So back to the truck. Down the road I went. Stopped at second spot. When I'm standing at truck I here a gobble close. So I have to walk down road about 100 yards to get across ditch to head to woods. Walk 10 yards and see a Tom pitch out of woods into field. Think oooooh crap. Game over. Then a hen pitches down to him. Now for sure game is over. So I slid down into big ditch. Make my way to the edge of ditch and woods. Sneak down edge of woods a good ways. Look into field and he's strutting with his lady. Sneak a little more to get set up. Look at watch and it's 715. Make 2 hen calls. No answer. 2 more hen calls. He looks and doesn't move. Just then it sounds like a tornado just over my left shoulder. Look and see a second gobbler sail into field. First gobbler is 75 yards. Second one hits the ground at 45 yards. I give a soft yelp and a cluck. He runs straight to me. At 25 yards I gave him a face full. 22 pounds, 11 inch beard, 1 inch and a 1 1/16 spurs. I'm happy with him. Been a tuff season.

They are closed mouthed here this morning, although I was just a little late getting out due to the rain. Definitely breezy.

We survived the storm this morning in the blind. Now it's looking pretty good for the birds to hit the fields. It was a long night. Didn't get to camp till 330, woke up at five. Needless to say the kids were thrilled to get up. But you can't kill them from the camper !!!

Another fun hunt! My last morning out and things finally came together. Birds didn't start gobbling until 5:15. He finally came down with a Jake at 5:45. They began angling way away from me. I knew it was do or die so I left my gear and literally ran 150 yards around the small patch of woods to cut them off. I had to belly crawl 30 yards around a hill with tall wheat to get them into view. The Jake made the first appearance at 25 yards and at 6:00 he was done. My first successful stalk on a bird. What a fun hunt!
