Birds went east away from me. Hens seem to have a destination in mind and he's doing his best to gobble, strut and keep up. I haven't done any calling yet. Just sitting and watching the show and keeping my eyes open and my head on a swivel.

I can hear hens yelping and clucking over my right shoulder. Heard a gobble as well. Sounds 100 yards away or so.

Set up in the same spot as yesterday. Hopefully this 22 degree difference from yesterday morning means more activity. Good luck all!

All set up and ready to listen for gobblers... Nice quiet morning so I should be able to hear them from pretty far away. Probably be a shorter hunt than usual as I FORGOT MY THERMOS OF COFFEE!!! Got in a hurry and left it on the kitchen counter..I've got a bottle of water to wash down my Apple Fritter but it just ain't the same.

Another fun hunt. Had birds gobbling and put a good, although not successful, stalk on a strutter. I got to watch him breed a hen, 1 of 4, at 100 yards. 6 punk jakes came out at chased him into the woods. This hunts over. Time to resume work on my shop.

I had two jakes hit the field about 125 yards south of me. They picked a little bit and then one started putting looking my directions and then they left the field. Not sure if they didn't like the looks of my decoys or not?
At the same time I heard several clucks in behind me..

Think the birds now are much quieter and do less gobbling than in years past. With people going out weeks before season and calling to them are bumping birds around has a negative effect. I try to get where they want to be and stay put. More like deer hunting anymore. Soft calling at the minimum unless I hear one respond. They come in silent more often than not for me.

Called in a box turtle. He came right in like he was on a string, but hung-up at about 2 yards. I'm thinking about getting aggressive with my calling to try and bring him on in.

I don't think it has as much to do with people messing with them before season around here as it has to do with something trying to eat them as soon as they gobble on the ground. Bobcats and coyotes are killing our population. That and we are killing the gobble out of them.

Fur prices low. Few trapping. Skunk, coons, possum, crows. They don't get to hatch. A coyote will take one here or there maybe, the ones mentioned before will kill 6 to 12 each nest. Most shoot every coyote they see. How many shoot every nest robber they see. My opinion.
