Bummer me sitting here at the breakfast table with all this activity going on.. giving it a couple days snd will try to get out Monday. Meanwhile Woodmaster is up there hunting. He has seen - 5 does & 3 lil bucks. 2 cruising & 1 chasing a doe Hopefully one of the big boys wil cruise by. I'm out of the pursuit today as well Woody. Thursday night I had another episode, heart rate and blood pressure were higher than Tuesday nights event. I decided to push through and hunt yesterday. I gotta admit, just the walk alone to the ridge wore me out and I was concerned about trying to get anything out of there. I was woke up briefly by a little arrhythmia about 2:30 this morning but, it was brief. I decided I better at least take the morning off and see if I can recoup some energy. Good luck everyone! I took a small 8 pointer. I will post picture later. It' gutted, but I still need to drag it to a good spot for the tractor. Congratulations Wayne! Did you get him out ok? |

No sooner than when I hit send on the last post, two does came by being chased by a grunting, basket rack 6 point. Lol

Hunting the same stand as I did this morning. Sure doesn't feel like it though. Hasn't seen anything except two hens.

Got my reduction zone buckk at 7:15 this morning. I was surprised how far he went. About 150 yards and blood everywhere.  Well done! He's a great buck! |

Well things came together this AM. Was watching 2 does feed in the persimmons when a forkhorn came by chasing another doe. While watching those deer I heard another walking, turned to me left and this guy came walking in. Figured he would continue his path for a broadside shot but nope, he turned and walked right at me. Adrenaline then kicked in as this was the one I had on camera a few times. I drew as he walked through a few saplings and when he stepped into the clearing....he stopped and looked straight up at me. I'm no William Tell but did feel confident with a 15 yard, quartering to me shot. Pass through shot and he went about 100 yards. Not text book but I'd just as soon be lucky as good. Feel awfully blessed. Thank the good Lord too for my Belgian horse son (6'6 260) for helping me get him out and loaded.  Congratulations! Beautiful deer! |

It was a great morning! Two shooter bucks and three other smaller ones. 2 does. All running, chasing, fighting....last for about 15 minutes then, just as quickly as it started, it was over. No shot opportunities at either buck. Well, one shot opportunity at the smaller if the two but, I elected to pass.

Nice flurry of activity. Sounded like two bucks chasing a doe. Lots of grunting and it sounded like they locked up briefly. All on the outside of the woods to the west. Lone doe ended up sneaking through while the running and grunting was still going on. I just knew they were going to come in here since she did. Nope. Lol

Slow day in my woods. I had 3 small bucks cruise by this morning. And that was it. Nothing this afternoon so far.

I filled one of my military refuge tags today. Nothing was happening, so I rattled at 0900. Within a couple minutes, I could hear a deer coming my way. He circled around downwind and had me pegged at 30 yards, but I had enough of a window to sneak the bolt in there. I hit higher than I wanted. He went about 400 yards - off the ridge, across the holler, and up the next ridge. He died in the first bed he made. I was getting real nervous on the blood trail. Huge wave of relief to look up and see him there, dead.  Congratulations! |

Boy these last few days have been rough but late last week with the cooler temperatures the bucks and deer in general were really moving. Saturday morning around 10ish this guy zigged when he should have zagged and came wandering by me at 25 yards. My first shot was an intentional heart shot which I thought I missed .... deer just ran a few yards and stood there looking around like he was trying to figure out what had happened. Second shot was straight through both lugs and 40 yards later he laid dead. Turns out my first shot entered at the point of the near side elbow and exited far side forward. Deer are tougher than Ill ever be.   Beautiful deer! |
