I hate it too. I truly hope everyone gets through it all okay. I just want to rabbit hunt and this weekend does not look optimal for that.

I brought in my secondary firewood box and filled it up along with the primary firewood box. I put firewood in the fireplace too. Gas cans are all topped off as well.
I hope all this prep has been for nothing.

I took down my blind from the JP farm last night and retrieved my hay wagon blind from another permission farm before I returned home.
This afternoon, I went to my main permission farm and retrieved life lines, tree hooks and pull ropes. Loosened all the stands and took down my remaining ground blind. Deer season 23-24 is officially over.

I pulled the old generac out of the shop yesterday morning and fired it up so it could run for about 15 minutes. I did the same with my snow blower. I hadn't started it since I did the test run last year.

Well, that's all she wrote. Just after I sent that last message, I had deer start filtering out. 14 total. Just nothing within range.
This has been one of my best seasons ever. No regrets!

I'm guessing that maybe the last minute blind relocation Friday evening wasn't the best plan. I felt so exposed and really thought it was the best move. With seeing so many deer enter the field from all different directions, I really thought that this standing food source would still be enough to lure them in. Lesson learned for next time.
Still 50 minutes or so left. Things can turn around in just 30 seconds or less. 🤞

Nothing so far. Just sandhill cranes and geese flying over. The wind is letting up some. Not much but, a little.

Definitely feels different today than yesterday. Straight west wind about 12-10 mph. Cooler and more snow on the ground! Let's hope and pray that the deer move this afternoon. A picture of my blind overlooking the uncut beans field I'm watching for the my final hunt of the year.

Clothes are in the ozone closet getting treated. Getting ready to eat an early lunch before I take a scent free shower. Then I'll be headed out for the final act before that ol' fat heifer start singing!

I absolutely love Mission BBQ! I have not not had one single negative experience there. As much as I try to avoid going to Merrillville, work often times leads up that way. I try and stop there when I do.

Completely different afternoon here. Yesterday, I saw deer enter into the field from every different direction, squirrels running all over, turkeys chattering and the sandhill cranes flying like crazy. Cranes are flying today but, not nearly like they were yesterday. Only one squirrel quietly walking through. No turkey chatter and not a single deer so far. Had to be something in the air today. Same for us in the skurry woods today, dead. A drive around the neighborhood tonight produced NO sightings of anything. Jeesh. New winds tomorrow so, I hope the deer movement is better.

All set and ready to go 🤞. The melting snow definitely sounds like rain. Deer will be slipping right by without me noticing. Lol

I hunted my permission piece by JP last night. Good sit as I saw several deer. Just no shot opportunities. Couple mistakes on my end as I decided to not sit in my blind which was positioned in the timber. I opted to sit on the edge of the field and left myself too exposed and got picked off rather easily. The deer didn't necessarily spook but, they did notice me and were leary about getting into range. After the field had cleared and well after night fall, I went and grabbed my ground blind and relocated it to the field edge near an already existing brush pile. I took several oak branches that still had leaves and placed them around and on top of my blind to brush it in.
I know it's late in the game for this sort of thing but, I did not like being that exposed. I'll give it a go this afternoon and see what happens.
Good luck everyone that's still grinding it out. Hunt safe and God bless!

Ours have been in the bird bathes just about everyday. They typically disappear, or at least aren't visible to us here at home, by this time each year. Mild temps are keeping them coming to the bird bathes anyhow.

That's pretty cool to read! I'm glad you two keep that tradition going. It sounds like you had an amazing weekend with some good eats. You work hard for your money, it's nice hearing about you enjoying with your family.

Same here. I hadn't seen any squirrel but, I thought I heard one behind my blind skurrying around. No deer yet.
Last night was wet and sort of crumby with NW winds. 4 for came out on the opposite side of the field then 4 more came out a couple hundred yards west of me. The sun is trying to shine here in central Jasper County and winds are out of the SW. Perhaps the deer will come out a little closer this evening.
Good luck, hunt safe and God bless!

I'm not sure which brand of coveralls I have but, they have entry of pockets and are pretty warm. I bought them up at Gordmans in Valparaiso some years back. They worst issue with them is that they are loud when they're cold. Everything time I move it sounds like I am opening a bag of chips. If not for that, I'd have no issues.
