Only thing we can figure was the arrow entered just above the near lung. It was lung blood though. It went up big hill too. Crazy It's amazing how tough mature bucks can be. I center punched both lungs on my buck 2 years ago. It still ran at least 200 yards before going down. Some of that distance was uphill. Many, many years ago (back in the recurve and longbow only years) I bowkilled a 1 1/2 year old non-typical (fork on one side and a spike that didn't grow straight up but laid flat on top of his head) buck. I was younger and dumber and had shot him at 40+ yard. Hit him in the neck and thankfully caught the carotid artery. He went down quickly. The next day as he was hung up I was washing out the cavity when I noticed what looked like a brown stick with one end enclosed in in a lump of what looked like a calcium deposit. I cut that open and low and behold a Bear broadhead. I then recognized that it was a Herter arrow shaft AND that is what my hunting buddy John Trout Jr. hunted with. John had shot what he thought was a doe the year before and of course we never found it. The shaft was in a position in the rib cage that he had to hit one lung. The button buck survived a year very well. He was in excellent shape. Just imagine what injuries a mature deer can survive.

Got in stand about 15 min ago. Hopeing to catch a cruseing buck. The birds and squrrels are very active all ready. The wind is not perfect but exceptable. It is blowing toward open tember and field edge. I an on the edge of a sapling thicket from a logging cut a few years back. I am also checking this stand out gor gun season. Now that the leaves are down I can see some good openings clear to the west fence(say 100 yds in a streight line and a few to the east fence 125 yrd streight line Will have some good shots in front too not so much to the rear maby 1 shot over 25 yds. First time in this stand. I have nervous deer on camera left and in front of the stand from a camera I had out befor the stand was placed to see if it was feasible to place one here. Only time will tell

Took a chance and set up on the back of the property where it looks good. Had a doe run up to with in 10 ft of us on the walk in, trying to get away from a buck. Get to where we want to set up and see a 2.5 year old cruising.

Just got setup about 15 minutes ago as well. Shooter I whiffed on walked by here this morning. Hopefully he starts cruising the same way back shortly.
Meant to turn this stand in the off season. Suns going to be in my face for a bit. Face mask on for a while to protect from any glare.

I've repositioned and am overlooking a cut corn field where I had a nice one on camera last night. I got a glimpse of an unknown deer running in the woods crosswind. Hopefully I didn't spook them.

Not hunting at all this week. Too busy then out of state for a few days. And went to clean the van out this afternoon for the trip and discovered a dead vehicle.

Actually in the stand!!! Got the new ladder for fun season set up earlier, talked to the land owner at a new, shorter access point. Now it begins in earnest. A couple of squirrels and some possible movement in the crp so far. Beautiful evening.

Just got settled in the stand. First time in the actual stand behind the house this season. It’s November 7 so never know what may happen. Do have a super fresh scrape about 15 yards away.

From 300 yards away what i would guess is 3.5 or old 8 point is feeding. Maybe only 2.5.

Just had the big 8 I’ve had on cam since August bust through here chasing a doe and grunting like crazy. He even roared real loud one time when she stopped and wouldn’t move.

Gotten quiet here. Just ordered a heated vest. Been really considering a heated vest,if you don't mind, what kind and how much? I have a bunch of Bass Pro points so that limited me to their selection. I ended up getting a fleece Gerbing 7V. Some of the reviews for the same model on other sites said it was good for hunting. I suspect on low heat under a jacket it will work best. It cost $200 plus tax and they currently have free shipping. It came in black. Other models on Amazon were in camo, but I wanted to use points. I figure my oldest can use it during rifle season as well.

You won’t regret a heated vest. I got a TideWe brand one last year. It’s pretty warm not even turned on, but when on will keep me nice and toasty. Used it quite a few times working outside in the cold too. Getting a heated vest and some arctic shield boot blankets really helps me stay warm during those super cold days.

2 more bucks since our last post. 1.5 y.o. cruising. Then had a decent 8 point chase a doe in grunting like a mad man.
