I do but I longer hunt in the heat. In my younger days I would be out there.

I do but I longer hunt in the heat. In my younger days I would be out there. Being retired I can pick and choose which days to hunt. When I first retired I tried to hunt every day. IOW - I made work out of hunting. That was wrong for me. Now I pass on the hot/buggy days, the extreme cold windy days, the pouring down rain days or days I just don’t feel like going. I don’t hunt near as many days, but the days I do hunt are nice!

Trying to decided on if I am taking off Tuesday or Wednesday. Tuesday night has a big drop in temp. Also Tuesday wind does a 180 in the wrong direction. Thinking Wednesday will be better.

Wednesday looks best to me. I’d save the “ days off” for about two more weeks unless I had a deer patterned or I had lotsssss of days. Then again, sometimes we need a mental health day when it’s 80 and sunny 🤣 while super early in the season sits have been most often less than fruitful for me, they’re truly the prettiest ones i get all season. This is the first year of many that I haven’t been out first day of reduction “just because”. All of the beans I can hunt on private have been brown for around a month now, some are even harvested already. Green beans are typically my favorite early season sits but this drought trend is a bummer for hunting beans.

Hoping for permission to go out tomorrow - crossbow is still extremely accurate at 50 yards just taking a break from shooting it before shooting the hunting bolts to check their lighted nocks.

I’m off tomorrow but think I’ll wait it out awhile. We have a ton of does on our property we are hunting. I feel like if we get a big cold front late October it’ll be on. Trying to be patient, we’ll see how well that works lol.

I probably won't bother going out until the first week of November, but figure I might as well monitor this thread. Lol!

Never heard back from the land owner who is super busy this time of year (runs a big cattle and crop farm), but still going out. He will tell us if we don't have permission to hunt at this property anymore. The person who lives there basically said the only day we can't hunt is October 11th, as there are Purdue students coming out to take samples. Fingers crossed something will show up. I will be hunting a bit late (8-lunchtime). Haven't even been out scouting but I know there is a 140"+ buck in the area (saw him crossing the road about a mile from this property more than a month and a half ago). We know from talking with neighbors in the past that there are big bucks in this area. I doubt the apparently giant 16 pt that had people talking 4 years ago is still around, but there are other deer. Going out without the truck so if I get one I will have to call for it..... Good luck to all heading out today!

Unfortunately I couldn’t make it out today. My hip surgery is acting up and my right thigh is numb. Better sit out this week till I see the surgeon next Monday, he’ll let me know if I can use my climber or if it’s too soon after surgery. Good luck to everyone out in the woods today.

Still have 1 stand to check but out of the woods for the day. Very nice out here. No deer while on stand but lots of squirrels and some chipmunks. Spooked 3 does going in and 1 blew from across the creek. Nothing until I walked out and spooked a basket rack 6 pt who wasn't sure exactly what I was.
Might not be able to get back out until next week.

Got settled in my climber at 5:00. Awful calm here..was expecting a little more of a breeze. I figured I would forget something the first sit of the year and it happened to be my Thermocell.

I’ve got a few days off work. Going out to the little private piece I hunt this morning and hopefully some F&W areas this week. Should be a decent morning. 25 degree temp change and low winds.
