First sit of the season right now. On a heavy fence row connecting 2 thick woods with cut beans on both sides of the fence, great wind and feels great to be back in the stand!

Well, I have seen zero anything so far. I've heard so wood ducks and a drake mallard in the pond. I hate to admit this but, I'm actually bored. Sits like this very rarely ever bother me. But tonight, my anxiety is just too high to relax good enough.
I feel like a heel for even mentioning it and I swear I'm not complaining. It's just that the woods and outdoors is generally my happy place.

Sat the big food plot tonight. Final tally was 11 does and fawns, 1 borderline shooter 8 point. Probably a 3 year old.

My youngest was home due to college fall break. Went out this evening and saw 5 does and 3 toms. After about an hour of slowly working in, she took a doe double lung at 25 yards. Maybe 80 yard track job. Just finished quartering it up and on ice.

Doe down! Story and pics later since I'm low on battery and still have to get her dragged out and gutted.

The day was cold but started out nice. Made it to our best stand just 5 minutes late. About 7:40 a large bodied antlerless deer went past at around 65 yards headed into the other property to bed. Then around 8:45 a half rack 4 pt came from the same direction and headed my way eating acorns. He turned and headed towards the other property. The rut is obviously starting... he had a swollen neck and I watched him knock a sapling down. He bedded in front of me in some thick stuff on the other property about 60 some yards away. Kept looking back like other deer were around. Sure enough a few minutes later a small 6 pt heads up the ravine behind me and browses on acorns for a while. He got within 7 yards of my tree - sort of saw me and nearly busted but despite standing right where I had walked in he calmed down and went his way a few minutes later. Then around 9:40 this doe came from the other property behind a larger doe and that doe's fawn. As soon as she went past the half rack he came running, no grunting. She was definitely getting hot - after I shot he went over to where she was laying and hung around - didn't get right up on her but definitely showed interest. I let him and the other deer stick around for a bit and calm down. Rattled to get the other 2 to move off and they did with a single snort and a little noise. Buck just watched until I got down, then headed the other way. Could have filled my deer bundle today if I was using a bow! Squirrels also seem to get a bit nervous with bucks - woods got quieter when both bucks showed up and one or 2 different grey squirrels got antsy. I also watched a raccoon going about it's business for a while too. Took me 2 hours to get her out and gutted. I'm not quite strong enough to get her on the game hook so waiting for my dad to get home (deer has been put in the shade and rinsed out). Still have some cleaning to do and tenderloins need to come out.

Reduction zone doe down tonight. Glad the creek was low because she was found in it.
