Two more bucks..nice 3.5 yr old 8 and the other was across the creek heading away from me when I caught his movement. Looked to be pretty nice with tall tines. A doe and her fawn out feeding. Good movement so far.

I just came in. I need to eat, pack up and head to farm for tomorrow gun opener. Started misting a little. I found out climbing sticks are not good for my knee. Going up no problem, but coming down was very painful. Knee still hurts. Tomorrow will be a ladderstand sit all day. Going to the inner corner stand. Best stand to shoot upto 100 yards.

Came home at 4:30 this evening and spotted a very nice 8 point buck laying in the neighbor's yard. I own 7.5 acres flanked by a woods to the east and a wheat field to the west. Buck was laying in the neighbor's woods to the east so I pulled in the garage, closed the door, grabbed my crossbow and snuck out to one of the ground blinds I have set up. At 5:30 I saw a doe come out of the woods some 90 yards in front of me headed towards the wheat field. Then I saw a buck chasing her - about 100 yards from me (no shot). I couldn't see how big he was because of how thick the brush was between us, but I figured it was the one I saw when I came home. I was looking down fumbling with my bag trying to grab my antler rattle when I looked up and saw the big 8-pointer walking out of the woods not 40 yards in front of me - seemingly pursuing the same doe. By the time I got my crossbow up and to the ready, he had walked behind a bush. I hit the rattle and he stopped and looked my way, but no shot (bush in the way). He then proceeded to walk directly away from me - keeping the bush between us, so no shot. Sounds like a fun encounter anyhow!

I've never had any luck doing either, in fact, I heard a grunt on Monday and tried grunting back as a smaller buck. As soon at I hit that grunt tube whatever it was took off through the thick stuff. I never rattle anymore in the 41 yrs i have hunted it has never worked for me, so i quit doing it years ago. I only grunt when i see a buck that is heading away from me and i dont have anything to lose. I never blind grunt. Deer are too pressured where i hunt so i am better off being quiet. I only know of one instance where my grunting brought in a buck. He proceeded to walk perpendicular to my to get directly downwind of me about 100 yards out. Blew out immediately.

I only just got to the place I'm hunting today. Had an appointment in town this morning, then needed some gas and some lunch on top of some more doe scent and rail lubricant. All good to go now, just in the car finishing lunch then going to pop the blind up along the edge of a foodplot about 100 yards from the car. Fingers crossed deer show up and come within 55 yards, and don't run into the neighboring hunting area. Food plot is completely in our hunting area but is next to another hunting area. We will see what happens - usually 1 or 2 big bucks are killed on this property and surrounding properties per season.

Fingers crossed no deer in the plot when I walk in there in a moment - the does here often move in the open about now.

Fingers crossed no deer in the plot when I walk in there in a moment - the does here often move in the open about now. Watch your wind, get in there like a ninja with zero noise and don’t use any calls tonight unless you see a deer and at that only call 1 or 2 times, you will know by then if he will respond or not. No blind calling.
