Went out this wet morning light drizzle. Didn't see any. I was using a doe bleat about every hour or so. It was around 9:50am and I decided to give the bleat one more try. (Dont think thats what did it) About 25 seconds later movement in the thicket to the right! Two doe's and a Big Buck!(Big ROY! from archery season needed him to come 10 yardscloser on November 4th didn't happen). The doe's shot down that trail at 30 yards right by me at 25 yards, the buck in tow. I Let out a Forceful "MEHHH". He stopped looked right at me. I already had my scope right on him! BOOM! Shoot him he mule kicks! Runs down the middle trail. Couldnt see him crash. After the shot four more doe poured in same trail, then a small buck after him a spike! He didn't go 30 yards!!!! Im So happy to call this my First buck. I have been holding out for years for a good one and always passing on smaller ones! Today it all came together for me!

Set up less than 30 mins and he shot an antlerless. 23 or 24 yard shot. Found hair and blood at initial shot sight. Backed out to the truck

Update from this morning, went out at noon to start tracking. No sign of blood for about the first 50 yards then I got a little. Bright red and not a lot of it. I proceeded to track another 150 yards with the same sparse blood trail. He left my piece of ground and I tried to get permission to track it where it went and a big NO! Nothing else I can do at this point except hope he makes it. Back at it again this evening at different location. Still upset about it but need to move on.

It is so quiet in the woods I am afraid the deer will hear me breathing South west wind here. Maybe 4 or 5 mph. No action yet.

That is an awesome buck, especially a first one! You, sir, have much more patience than I! I've taken a lot of big deer, but I've also taken my share of small ones over 30 years.

Pic of a buck taken on wadwinger22 buddy’s property this morning. I took a big 8 like that in 2009. It's not everyday that you see an 8 of that quality. Congratulations to the hunter!

So was watching a big buck in the woods. Thru a lot of small saplings and what not. Trying to get a confirmation of the size rack. We'll of course here comes a doe and a yearling and start feeding 25 yards from me. Now if there wasn't a big buck close by ,both would have been given the good news. Big buck didn't come out either. I watched until I couldn't see him.

Another view of Joe Bacon's muzzleloader buck from this morning. The thing has circumferences greater than 7" and he estimates it in the 180's.

Neck shot that went that far pretty well says he will recover. Better luck next time ..

Well, congrats to all those hunters getting it done. This has been the slowest season I can remember. Opening day only heard about 4 shots. We've been hunting everyday since opening and I have seen my Momma and her twins once, (Thursday). That was it. The scraps and rubs on property didn't look like they have been used in at least a week. Had at least 8 different bucks running around all fall until Nov 4th, only had about 5 pics in the last week and half, all at night. Well Thursday night changed and almost all the bucks are back on camera in last 2 days. But only at night so far. Had a couple battling last night at the only scrap being used so far. Hopefully see some day movement soon. Still have a few days left to get something. Back at it bright and early, good luck to all...SF Woods
