Me and my second oldest daughter and our foreign exchange girl from Sweden. She had on her bucket list to go hunting, so we marked that off this evening. Saw 2 does and a buck, one doe came in real close so that was neat for her. She said she enjoyed it. Very cool! I bet she enjoyed that very much. That looks like a nice blind you have there as well!

Funny how almost in hunting is still so far away from getting it done. Had a shooter pushing a group of around 8 does Sunday morning. They were in a CRP field thru way too many trees to even attempt a shot (only 60 yards or so away), sucks because most of the woods I'm in there is open as all get out except the route they took that morning. Grunted at him and he began just thrashing a few trees, then went right back to that group of does. Assuming one of them still hadn't been bred yet. Had a good morning saw a ton of deer and finally a buck that I was going to shoot, yet here I am typing away, still with a buck tag. So close yet so far away.....

Good luck to all hunting in the snow today..... I'm stuck in town having had class this morning through lunchtime and then having to go to work in a little less than an hour. Saw a big doe, her twins, and a yearling on the way in this morning, and one was in the back yesterday around lunchtime. So they are moving. Fingers crossed the nice shooter I saw early this month before firearms is still around and will make the typical late-season appearance in the same spot in mid-late December. Since no trail cams, we can never confirm that the bucks we see on each sit and each year are the same. We don't take pictures of the deer when we see them either - however last year Dad and I both saw a buck in the same spot, doing the same stuff, and matching each other's descriptions. Dad saw a buck the year before in the same spot, again matching the description of this mature buck - I think he practically lives/lived back there and stays in the thick stuff during firearms during the daytime. He was seen in early season or around the beginning of firearms last year by Dad, then no mature bucks were seen again until I jumped him from his bed late last December - knew it was him due to the big body, good width, short tines, and bleached antlers. I think the 4 pt 2023 shed I found there is his. We can never get a super good look at the number of tines he has. I don't yet know if the shooter I saw this fall was him or not, but I would not be surprised if it was. He seems most gullible in the early season with a north-south wind, and in the latest parts of the late season. Don't know where the 2 mature half-racks I've seen went to either. One of them may have been him or one of his relations as the body size-to-antler sized ratio nearly matched.

Thing must be getting wild out there. Just got a picture of apparently a frustrated buck…. That’s awesome!

Heading to church service Sunday morning just off my property stood a big buck staring at the car. I stopped and watched him for a few minutes, a nice 10 pointer. My guess 160-170 score. Never on camera.

Well, finally got on from the trip. Congrats to all you hunters that got out and got it done this year and that will continue getting out for the rest of the season. All in all, this trip was a tag soup kinda trip. But still Can Not beat being back home and out in the Woods. I find so much peace in just that alone. Did see a doe in the woods the last day, 26th, but no way to get a decent shot at her. Deer are starting to show back up on camera now, guess all the winter romance vacations are winding down now. On a good note, I have seen all the bucks back on camera that I was seeing in October, so for the most part 95% will survive until next year. Was thinking about maybe coming home for bow season next year. All seem to be hanging out, on or around property in October. Coming back home for Christmas, 1st time being home for Christmas since I joined the Marine Corps in 89. As always gents, I live through you all off season from a distance. Good luck to all and I will continue to read about your stories....Semper Fi, Woods

There wouldn't be much hunting going on here this week if gun season was open, at least not for me. I'm not going to be hanging out in the woods with 20 mph winds and gusts to 45 mph with "feel like" temps of 5°F. At least the wind is supposed to die down for muzzleloader season opener, but I'll be working.
