My boy is into his last season. Been playing since 3rd grade. Had to repair his knee in 9th grade but still wanted to play, despite Mom's suggestions. Worked his tail off and lost the starting inside linebacker last season to a game of rock-paper-scissors game by his coach...his Jr. Yr. He didn't let that deter him. He continued to work hard and be a good teammate. He got more pt than the kid that won the starting spot but dang he wanted to start! This year he packed on muscle, improved his work ethic and has become a leader of his team. Needless to say I am proud of what he has accomplished and his ability to learn the life lessons that team sports provides. As good as he has done on the field, he does even better in the classroom. Works a part time job and to my knowledge doesn't let other bad influences deter him. Here is to a safe season to all the highschool football players.

I failed...I let span870 run him through briars at about 5 yrs old and since then no hunting. We used his wails to pull in any predators in a 5-mile radius. Only 1 cougar but span only had a half loaded 410 and was afraid to miss. I never believed him either. He does like fishing but not ate up over it. Another fail...

They sure did, I was able to meet Garrett at our lift contest in Brownstown this spring, strong kid and very polite. Our Brownstown boys scrimmaged the Stars Friday evening and very frequently the announcer was heard to say "tackle by #9 McDuffie" He played very well! Good luck to the Stars and the Braves this season.

Interested to see how our new coach does with the team this season. Good luck. Did the previous coach retire, just move on or get fired? Our coach is in his 4th season. He has continued to improve each year, but he lost a lot of seniors last year and some other talent due to various reasons. See how he motivates his team.

He moved on, somewhat on his own. Haha I know a few folks who made the same choice.

He looks like a solid kid, best of luck to him and his team! My son plays as well, only a sophmore, but may get varsity time because some other older kids are hurt. Enjoy his senior season!

I hope Seymour has a decent year for once. You would think a school system with over 5000 kids could do better.

My highschool was less than 400 total students and we had freshman, jv and varsity teams. There were a few that played in multiple games a week, especially the freshman squad but they were the exception. Bnl only has 6 seniors this year. At the end of last year and just prior to practice this year the team lost 5 seniors [1 transferred, 3 quit and one had medical reasons] and at least 2 juniors that would have got lots of pt this year. Hard to crack that code. 3 of the seniors essentially started varsity since sophomore year.

What hurts is playing in class we should not be in. 1/3 of our enrollment are EL students. Which moves us up.

Heading to Owen valley for the game tonight. Hoping these boys andthis coach can get their first win of the season. Last Friday they were up on Greenwood when the game was called with 8 minutes left due to weather. Then they lost it on Saturday morning.

Good luck against those Patriots and to BNL as they head to Jeffersonville. We have Eastern Pekin at home tonight.

I have all daughters, so we have been a "softball family" for a LONG time. It's unbelievable to me that some 3a and 4a schools struggle to even be able to field a team? That is more common than you would imagine.

I never thought I’d see IU as 42.5 favorite in a football game but here we are. Favored over Western Illinois.
IU. Is up 42 to 0 with 2:20 left in the first half.
