Gonna head out for the evening. Sitting here eating and there’s a hen out back right now. Gonna have to sneak around her.

Saying 30deg in morning. Feels more like deer hunting weather than turkeys!

I slipped back out tonight to the same spot I hunted this morning. About 3/4 of the way there, I heard some scratching up ahead. I set up and called, turned out it was only songbirds though. Once I got to the blind, I set the decoys out and started calling. I got a reply from probably 200 - 300 yards away. Two toms made their way over, probably took them about 10 minutes, gobbling intermittently along the way. They were eyeing the decoys from about 15 yards behind my blind when I shot the lead tom. He hit the ground at 5:30. I had to practically run the other tom off, he hung around putting for at least a couple minutes while I was gathering my things.

Sucks running on only couple hours of sleep. Never fails the workload is always rough when you are most vulnerable. I'm pretty antsy and fidgety to get back out in the morning. 💪💪💪

It clicked but not a scratch on the primer. Is it a Benelli? A Mossberg semi auto 28gauge. Pistol grip turkey gun. I had to buy chokes so she could dove hunt with it. No issues then. I’m taking it to the range tomorrow to investigate.

Going to Red Brush Rifle Range in the morning to see what is what. Is it the scope or me? That is the question..
I'm thinking the scope is about 20 years old. So who knows...

Holy moly. Had to scrape the windows and doing a little preheat before hitting the road. A balmy 28deg, but no wind right now. Showing the weather to do a big flip starting tomorrow. Temps rising, rain/storms, and lots of wind. 🙄 Come on now.

I'm going to same area I was yesterday. But, gonna move over by a mowed lane the birds went to/thru. Taking a small pop up blind to try and stay warmer. Let's get it done today!
Good luck to Wesb81219 trying to get in via the no show drawing. Saw him at the check in.

Must have flew down going away as the gobbling got softer. But have more gobbling from opposite direction now. Much more vocal today on the ground, or at least I can hear them without the wind. No shots so far.

Zero gobbles here this morning. Maybe they froze?

My buddy was finally able to connect on a gobbler yesterday. The majority of the day was birdless but, finally around 3pm we were hearing lots of gobbling and we had several encounters. When we were giving up and heading out, he spotted a red head in a tall wheat field. Then another one. These two toms were bedded in the field. Just popping their heads up occasionally. They were in the middle of the field and a good 150 yards from us. He decided he wanted to try and stalk them, which he did successfully. He got within 20 yards, stood up and the toms got up and bolted. Only one made it to safety. Fun to watch!
