My steam is running out quickly in pursuit of turkeys. Super busy at work, stretched thin and wore down, a sore back yet again, Mothers Day, and planning for an upcoming vacation trip to WV, has lowered my enthusiasm. I do have to go get 2 blinds, so will probably sit for an hour or two in each before tear down. I think the "rut" in our area peaked very early. Was hot for about a week from youth till opening Thurs. Preseason and again now, not seeing any birds in the area where we normally would.

I’m with ya deadeer think I’m done for the season. Unless I wake up and that bird is out back somewhere they can live and grow bigger for next season. According to my wife we are camper shopping tomorrow and she wants to fish on Monroe on Sunday so I can’t complain about that.

I killed my best bird on the last morning many years ago. Although my life wasn't so busy back then!

As said, I'm gonna sit for an hour or two at each blind, so still a chance...

I don’t know where the birds have gone! I thought I heard one distant gobble about 8, and literally nothing else. Couldn’t get anything to answer my calls. Then a doe busted me from the field and she and her yearling doe took off running and blowing from 20 yards from me. Young buck did walk through in front of me. Then after the deer busted me a squirrel caught on to me and made a racket right next to the blind. I waved my box call and rangefinder out the window, but the squirrel didn’t do anything except chatter. I eventually got up and shook the blind a bit and it shut up. The bugs weren’t bad. Few mosquitoes, mostly just those gnats who don’t bite but tickle when they land on you and bother you when they get right in your face. A chipmunk didn’t mind me sitting there for a long time. A mouse surprised me by sliding through along the inside left side of the blind. Catbirds were noisy. Phoebes did make some appearances. So did some sparrows. The only big black bird I saw was out in the field nearly 200 yards away and was moving like a crow.

Last hunt for me as well, i have only seen 1 hen all season. Seen something in the field real early and it was a skunk. I guess that pretty much sums up my season. Lol. Enjoyed the time in the woods though

Most gobbling I’ve heard here in a long time. Three different birds have been hitting it off and on. The one close has now shut up

They’ve all went quiet now…must be on the ground….
The one close to me had to hear my tree yelps…so now we wait.

Just got in. Hasnt been any gobbling yet this season here, so not worried of a close roost. Giving it an hour if nothing heard, then off to the chore list until the last chance tomorrow.

Glad I wasn't planning on staying long. Didnt realize how dang cold it was, 46deg. Skeeters sure dont care, out in full force. Thermacell is keeping up luckily. More water around than last few years at both spots.
