Well, I should have had a bird in Daphne's lap this afternoon. We were picking mushrooms and I took the shotgun and a mouth call just in case. We walked out of the woods from spot number 2 and boom, there's a strutter on the back side of the next patch of woods over. Her and I start to make a line to the opposite side of those words to set up and call when I remembered that I did not load the gun. I stopped, checked and confirmed, not a single shell in the gun or in my truck🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️.
Not sure how that happened but, I must have been too excited about the mushroom hunt.

I really wish I had a field to hunt, but I don't. Our farmer friends have fields in areas where I doubt there's plenty of turkeys. I've never seen a turkey in any of their fields. I might try and pull a few strings somewhere though. Good luck to all of you out there hunting!

Haven't yet done a morning hunt this season. Maybe that will help pinpoint if/where the turkeys are roosting on the property.

Lucky you on a spider..
When I was moving the blind today Woodmaster had the blind and chair cases in the corner. I lifted them up and a half dozen mice took off and ran under the blind and took off for parts unknown.
They had a nest of turkey feathers under the cases. They had been plucking them off of Woodmaster’s stuffer decoy. 🤣

The weather guessers have said a lot of rain this week....but it is running the stretch time. I hope to get out Wednesday on.. Lord willing.. I'm a little more optimistic after moving my blind.

I am not a turkey hunter but I enjoy reading about the success and failures in this thread. I want to give a congratulations to all that have had success and a good luck to those that are still at it

The turkeys are at it behind my house this morning. Both sides of the ditch a few hundred yards apart, there's strutters with hens.

I wonder if buzzards affect turkey movements? They don’t seem to have any effect on crows or doves, but there are 5 sitting on fence posts about 70 yards in front of me and 2 hens 350 yards out. If I were to shoot a turkey I’m not sure that I could keep the buzzards off to get my bird. Oh now it’s 6.

Well I guess I got my answer. Just had a hen walk into the feed lot right where the buzzards are sitting. Lol

So, who’s out after them today besides me?

Really need either a decoy or a field, or both. Have no access to any fields that I know would have turkeys. Very quiet where I've been hunting. I have finals tomorrow or I'd be out today. Just up early due to a goat kid that needs bottlefeeding.

No gobbling at all.
Only critter is a raccoon on the other side of the field.

So, who’s out after them today besides me? Today is the first day off I've taken this year when a legal season was available since Florida. I'm flat out beat. I'm sure I'll be out later today but I just couldn't crawl out of bed
