We had a Tom come by with a 7-8” beard just out of range. Passed on a jake and several hens. Like someone said patience kills turkeys

The wind is getting out of hand. Several branches falling. Time to go. Pulled camera card on way out, our birds all all late afternoon. So, will assess weather later today and beyond.

Had a gobbler come into our lane about 150yd away. I gave a couple Yelps, and he froze for a few minutes. He finally moved and I stopped him again, but he wouldnt commit. It gave Luke time to get situated and perked him up. That was 45min ago, and nothing else since. Not a single gobble so far. Blind is filled with skeeters, and the wind is building now. Starke county Ya wannt borrow a Thermacell for the blind? I have a few.

Gnats were bad where I was at. Decided to leave due to the 20 mph winds. That big tree I heard fall might have also had something to do with my decision.

The glimmer of hope is that fuse was rusted and it actually came out in two pieces. The truck is immaculate clean, and the fuse box is same. All other fuses look clean. So, hoping it was replaced with a used one at some point, got road salt on it, or some other kind of fluke. Not that a fuel pump cant go bad at 56k miles, but it is very rare from what I have experienced. Let me tell ya, it wasnt a pleasant feeling when my baby just cranked away with no fire!

Very quiet here in southern Jackson Co this morning. A little bleery eyed from last night and wasn't able to hang in there very long this AM. Long story short, my neighbor who turned down many, many offers from others to buy ground from him graciously sold me my little piece of heaven (only 2 acres but have 900 acres of state forest starting 15 yards from my back door). He passed on last Saturday morning. He also allowed me and my son to hunt his property free of charge since 1989. Just a super guy. I sure am going to miss driving by his house those early mornings and seeing him setting in his recliner and stopping by after the hunt to let him know of our successes or failures. His wishes were to have a drink on him at the local watering hole after his service. I look at his life and compare it to when Robert Duvall (Augustus) getting ready to pass, when he looked at Capt. Call and said "aye God Woodrow, its been quite a party"
Anyway I'll be back after em tomorrow with my son in law. Good luck to those still chasing them birds.

Had a hen go by a long while ago. Nothing else. At least the wind calmed down. We are gonna pull the plug fairly soon. Taking momma out for dinner to keep the peace. 😇

I decided to go out today. Sat from just after 1 to 8:30 in a nice open wooded area. I couldn't sit still for long enough so kept getting up to go look for turkeys. Nobody ever answered any of my calling. Went probably just under 300 yards and about 50 yards away in the thick stuff heard a gobble. Snuck into the brush and headed closer. He gobbled off and on for about 2-5 more minutes, then shut up. I got probably 25-30 yards from him but so thick I never saw him. Did see one of his hens. They walked off. I accidentally stepped on a few twigs a little hard and they might have heard that. A few hours later I'm back in my chair and ready to get up again when I hear a gobble coming from near the creek. So I get up and look and sure enough there's a turkey down there but it's just one that I can see and it turned and walked away before I could get close enough. I did end up getting lucky that I didn't spook a single deer. Even snuck back to my chair in nearly full view of two that were browsing about 63 yards away. Then I saw the lighting. There had been some rain, but I was trying to hold out. When I saw the lighting I decided it was time to pack out even though there were about 10 minutes left. Glad I did or I would've gotten soaked.
