I had a hen walk by my cell cam this morning at 6:54. It's about 100 yards away from a spot that I picked out a few weeks ago. Now just hoping the weather cooperates in the morning.

I have yet to get out. It may be not until halfway through the season that I can get out, as I have finals in 2 weeks. However, just sitting here I realized I don't know where the box call is.... Got the crossbow down and out and checked it over and let it fly a few times a few days ago to make sure it's still good from deer season. I'm not too worried though. The property I turkey hunt is pretty much a given that I can get within 50 yards of those birds without them noticing too much. I'm usually within 30 yards of them before they startle if I'm being careful. There's a flock of about 17 birds there and the property is small enough that patterning them is pretty easy. They roost all over it, too.

Well, everything worked off so I made my way out of there. Probably won’t get out for the rest of the weekend due to a softball tournament. Good luck and congrats to everybody that has been successful.

Of course they let us get all the way there before canceling for today due to the ongoing rain. Ugh…. Returning tomorrow and Sunday. Will leave early for a daddy daughter dance tomorrow evening.

Like usual, they lied. It was 27°F when I left for Freedom, IN this morning. You stocking that pay lake down there? No, it was a 2 ac private lake that had erosion issues and an overflow pipe that was too small with the emergency overflow set too close to the level of the primary overflow. Enough water washed over the emergency overflow to move boulders that were approximately 3'-4' diameter. I will be stocking the pay lake in Noblesville before Memorial Day with 1,000# of 2#+ Channel Cats. Southard Pay Lake or Southard Gravel Quarry, I don't know exactly what name they go by. Husband and wife run it, well, husband now. The wife passed away last month due to liver cancer. In the 200 mile one way trip, I only saw 2 turkeys out in the fields. Pretty country, it reminded me of Virginia. The route took me along the White River. It was North of Freedom, actually not that far away from Spencer but still a Freedom address.

No turkey hunt for me today unless it's this afternoon. I'm going bunny hunting this morning. The limit is 100. Bunny shoot at Back Forty Sporting Clays. This weekend and next weekend. Hopefully the rain will hold off.

Had a gobbler come into our lane about 150yd away. I gave a couple Yelps, and he froze for a few minutes. He finally moved and I stopped him again, but he wouldnt commit. It gave Luke time to get situated and perked him up. That was 45min ago, and nothing else since. Not a single gobble so far. Blind is filled with skeeters, and the wind is building now. Starke county

So much for rain today, even before I left the house we were going to get hit early and once in the field it got pushed until this afternoon. Unfortunately, it didn’t push out the high winds.

Shot a Jake at 7:50 and I'm glad it's over. Time to get to pickleball and fishing. The place I hunt had strangely low activity this year and it was a rough few days. First Jake I have shot at this place because there were normally other birds around worth waiting for.

Working with my boy now to instill good values, ethics, and show him what keeps my enthusiasm high in our outdoor passion. He is way more patient than I ever was growing up!
