Pretty boring and slow today. Haven’t heard a gobble since about 7:30 or so and those two went the opposite direction they did yesterday morning. Of course.

Yesterday. No gobbling at all close. Saw several hens and a Tom that wouldn’t come in. Left at 1130am with a plan to move further down in field where the hens entered field.
Hammering birds this morning. Numerous birds gobbling. Haven’t heard that many in a long time. Hens flew in right in front of me. Live decoys! I didn’t put out a decoy this morning, I felt the Tom yesterday didn’t like it.
830a three Tom’s walked right to me at 20 yards. One didn’t make it. The other two started whooping up on the down bird. I pretty much walked right up to them. Hard to get them to leave.
Once they all hit the ground, there was little gobbling. These 3 came in silent which is usual here. Always have to be ready.

No gobbles heard today, big difference from the last few days in Kentucky. Hope the next few days it picks up. Going to try and locate a roosted bird on public tonight

Had several gobbling early but shut up around 730 and none were interested in my calling. Had my deer hunting clothes on and was still cold. Looks like warmer temps are around the corner. My son connected this AM (after missing yesterday) with a 22 lber.
My neighbor had an interesting afternoon......his wife looked out the window and saw a black jeep pulled in next to her vehicle, she went outside and a guy was getting hunting gear and gun together and she asked what he was doing, he said "well this woods next to you is state ground and I am going to try and kill that turkey in the field below your neighbor's house (mine)" Never even bothered to ask if he could park there. She said well yes the state ground is adjacent to the our property but the driveway isn't state gound.
It was an out of state hunter. Like many of you shared during deer season, the numbers of out of state folks is definitely on the rise.
Gonna get after em this evening.

My buddy was finally able to connect on a gobbler yesterday. The majority of the day was birdless but, finally around 3pm we were hearing lots of gobbling and we had several encounters. When we were giving up and heading out, he spotted a red head in a tall wheat field. Then another one. These two toms were bedded in the field. Just popping their heads up occasionally. They were in the middle of the field and a good 150 yards from us. He decided he wanted to try and stalk them, which he did successfully. He got within 20 yards, stood up and the toms got up and bolted. Only one made it to safety. Fun to watch! Wow....thats impressive. Gotta be part injun!

Snuck in on where the birds have been roosting a little bit closer this morning. This is a pretty good size group of birds and it seems like they don’t want anything to do with the decoys. After they moved off, I went back a couple hours later, and moved the blind right in close on them. Unfortunately, when I got back, there was at least one Tom and two hens right where I was putting the blind. Hopefully nudging them off with the truck won’t affect them too much. I

I We have abandoned any decoy use. Just too many negative outcomes. Just a Yelp or two and let them come looking.

What a great quick hunt this evening. I am just not much for evening setting for turkey hunting. But tonight was one of those hunts that just worked out. I started to one spot to scout for the morning. The farmer was working the field. So I went by my farm and there was a lone gobbler in the field headed east. So I went around and parked. Quickly threw my stuff on and went across the road on my neighbor's. There is a draw that comes out to a point from my place. So I made my way around to the end of draw. To my right about 150 yards or so is another woods where they like to roost. So this might work. I am between him and the bedroom. So I am set up. Let out a series of hen yelps. Bam he answered. I cut him off with a loud series of yelps and he hammered back. Now it's time for the silent treatment. He gobbled ever couple minutes. For probably 15 or 20 times. And he is coming. I set up so he would pass from left to right. He crosses the road and into field and just stays there. He isn't about to move the last 100 yards. So I am watching him when I looked to my right and there is two longbeards at 45 yards headed his way. When the back bird. Which was closer pass into a opening I took the shot. Very thankful for this bird. My experience with evening hunts don't work. But this one did. 23 pounds. 10 in beard. 1 inch and 1 inch and a 1/4 spurs.

Excellent. Afternoon birds are lonely and curious, good time to win them over.

One thing they taught us in firearms training is to never RIDE THE SLIDE shut always let it slam shut. That's why I use a semi-auto.

Saying 30deg in morning. Feels more like deer hunting weather than turkeys! Like usual, they lied. It was 27°F when I left for Freedom, IN this morning.

A buddy a few years ago did the same thing, but when he popped up the birds got up and flew. He shoots a lot of clay birds, so he led the bird by about 2 feet and dropped it.

With the work schedule, it might be Sunday before I can get out. Maybe some time next week, not sure - it's fish moving season!

Back at it…
Hopefully with better results.
Going to practice aiming left handed at my decoy and see how that goes.

Setup and ready to go. Moved the blind yesterday so they’ll probably do everything opposite today 😁🤦🏻♂️

Crows are really cutting up… you would think that would get a gobbler or two going…but nope.
