Ill have to find me a public lake full of hybrid gills that are on a scheduled feeder....will check back with you when I find them. There, now you don't have to find the hybrids in a public lake. But you will have to find someone that is feeding them. LOL

Ran up to St Joe for a nice dinner and quick pier fishing trip. Luke jigged up a heck of a scrapper. Super nice flathead cat on a blade bait. No measurements and he went back in the drink.

SO, is he going to get a bigger net now? That's a nice flathead. I bet he was pumped!! That would have made some good catfish nuggets!!

His mom said, "Are you even gonna be able to land that?" Lol. Yeah, he was pretty excited. We've caught several flatheads there now. As soon as he set the hook, it felt like a snag, but after a head shake, he said, "big flathead!" So he was right on the money. Good times!

I had fished the river around Buchannan I believe. Something Dairy. We just after cats and did very good on big channels and a few nice flathead about that size. My bro'n'law has pulled a few out of that stretch over 20. We pulled a lot of junk out of the river from the trout snaggers too. Nice stretch of river. Lots of diversity.

For a birthday present for Luke, a new net will be on the list. But, I'm brewing up a real surprise to put that net to use. IF the Intel is still good coming up, we are gonna take a haul up to Pere Marquette Lake, and maybe Manistee, to do some jigging for kings in a weekend or two. Its popular up there, and can be successful, and very doable for our boat size. My buddy has been up there last 3 years and has caught fish. He has reliable contacts there to advise if worth going. If that don't work, may settle for some harbor and outside the port trolling if the fish are staged up. That time is coming very soon. Need some cold weather and or a good cold rain to start the frenzy.

Your boat is perfect for that lake, they jig for KINGS from the ferry docks on and they jig 24 hours a day. If your looking for a nice clean place to stay and eat let me know. Ludington is a nice place.
The run is at PEAK or just past PEAK for that part of the mouth of the PIERRE MARQUETTE.

I talked to a buddy in Oklahoma. He likes eating Flatheads better than Channels or Blues. He thinks that fish was between 20 and 30 pounds. He recommended keeping the next one you get from there and cooking it.

A conversation that was loaded with Intel about the area we are going to, including lodging, dining, and fishing. Just want to say thank you very much for taking the time to help us out and share that info today. Your alright friend. 😉

An even dozen bluegills after giving up squirrel hunting due to the wind. Easier to anchor and fish than try to find squirrels with the whole woods moving. Forgot to take the pic til I was almost half done cleaning the fish.

Tonight I decided that I'm not a bait caster guy. I got tired of bad casts and bird nests. I'll be sticking with open bail reels from now on. Does anyone have a recommendation for a larger catfish open bail reel that won't drain my wallet?
