Im just trying to get him in shape for competition season. I do have a pup in training right now and if it ever decides to start split treeing I will knock some out to him. We have all red fox squirrels where I hunt at. They like to sit tight.

I forget if it's $300 or $500 a pup but being on Disability I couldn't afford it and don't have a place I could use it in the late season anyway so I never did. Dad bought 1 from him back in the 90s and it was a great squirrel hunter. Another 1 he bought from him only liked to hunt raccoons. |

With how poorly I was shooting today, I'm pleased to have gotten 3. Even though this woods has many nice oaks, the squirrels were active in and around the few hickory trees. I saved the squirrel livers and I am going to attempt to catch a channel cat from the river this evening.

I have 2 Original mountain curs and my older dog is a treeing cur but mostly mountain cur with some plott mixed in somewhere in his 16 generation pedigree. I am lucky to have the Salamonie 4 miles away and the Mississenewa Resorvoir 12 miles from me. I coon hunt mine as well with pretty good luck. But once squirrel competition season starts I wont coon hunt any. |

Add 5 for Team #1. 4 gray and one fox. Only one was a female. Have to put in 5 hours at work today, so could only hunt for an hour. Got my 5 in 51 minutes. Took the old BL-22 Deluxe out to exercise today. That was my first rifle 42 years ago. Personal total is 5.  |

It's in pretty dang good shape except the wood has a few battle scars from not crossing fences properly when I was too young to take good enough care of it. I would love to have it stripped and re-varnished or whatever that thick layer of clear coat is. |

Looky there. Team Fort Nuts in the lead with 7 already!!! Thanks Woody! 😉 I had to delete that 7. Esshup’s check bounced. LOL, It took me over 3 hours the other day on-line just to get checks ordered from Vista Print. What a PITA. Their system had a glitch, then cookies stored wouldn't allow me to enter correct information, took 3 calls to their customer service people, THEN I had to place 4 different orders because their system woudn't allow more than one item to be ordered at a time. The credit card statement will be a mess to figure out with all the ordres/shipping charges for every individual order then the shipping charge refunds due to combining shipping charges on their end. But it's all straightened out now Woody.  |

Team Fort Nuts on the board with a deuce. Saw 4 or 5, but was concentrating on where these fell, so reluctant to take my eyes off the spots. Even after retrieving and the others barking, I couldn't locate them thru the leaves. Cool, more for later.  |

I was out by the pond after I let the ducks out and low and behold a fox squirrel came over by the pond with a nut in its mouth looking for a place to bury it.....but no gun on me, the lucky little critter. I went over by it and it hopped on a tree and peaked around at me from the back side, it was only 5 feet from me. Then it ran over by the fence row and stopped again....man I wish I had my gun with me.

We have lots of them in town too but I've only ever seen 1 gray out here in the country, let alone the black ones. I've been hunting them since 1975 and always just see fox squirrels other than the 1 I shot a couple of years ago. In town there's as many or more grays and black ones as there are fox squirrels. |
