Anyone seeing any new birds showing up? Antsy to get out, but not seeing many birds in our area.

This has been the absolute worse season ever for me. For the past 10 years or so our local bird numbers have gone down to almost nothing. I have been a life long member, past chairman, and founder of a Ducks Unlimited chapter so I have earned the right to say "I don't believe the numbers". I think it's time to give the entire waterfowl hunting thing a major overhaul.

JDUB called and said he took a goose and 3 ducks. He has been knocking them dead.

I've got a draw hunt at the fish hatchery up at Grand Lake St. Mary's here in Ohio Saturday. Hoping for some good action.

Goose Pond was 85-90% frozen on Saturday. Very few birds on the private lake I have permission to hunt but it doesn't typically get good until the smaller ponds start to freeze up. Tried sneaking on some snow geese Saturday but by the time I got close to them they had moved onto another field across the road. It was cool to watch them. They were just constantly up and down, leap-frogging each other. I guess competing for food. They ended up in 4 different fields in less than an hour.

Friends of mine actually watched a group of guys using 3 cow cutouts come in on a large group of Snow geese from different directions and when they opened up, the geese were caught in a cross fire. Not his or my idea of waterfowl hunting but if you want to put a lot of birds on your tailgate this method works. www.cabelas.com/product/Sneaking-up-on-Snow-Geese/531754.uts

The geese are around and moving. As far as new though I haven't seen much. I'm not having a good feeling for the last week of duck hunting in a couple weeks because I haven't seen many ducks lately.

I saw a few hundred snows sitting on the shelf ice at the gravel pit @ 35 and 30, Saw a bunch of Sandhills a bit further South and West walking through the picked corn fields..
Quite a few duck hunters in N. Central Arkansas (Wynne) when I was there on Monday. I saw a bunch of birds sitting on the flooded fields, but not many flying. They had about 1/2" ice build up on the trees/bushes from the storm on Friday.

Hunted Grand Lake St. Mary's Saturday and killed a 2 man limit of mallards. Seen several thousand ducks and several thousand geese. Tons of birds in the area.
