Yet guys and gals,
I need your prayers and good thoughts.
Friday evening I had some severe bleeding from my rectum. My grandson is a doctor and he said it was more than likely diverticulotus and could go away on its own but for me to "eat more fiber" And if i had any more bleeding to see my doctor.Saturday and Sunday morning my stool returned to normal. Cool!
The bleeding came back with a vengeance Sunday afternoon. I passed a lot of blood on 4 occasions within about and hour and a half. The last two passings were at Saint Mary's ER room as we went there after my second bout in a half hour at home.
My second passing at Saint Marys was enough to get me to pass out. I woke up with 8 or 9 folks working on me. A Catscan was negative on anything major. I was admitted and have spent the night here. Got maybe 4 hours of total sleep. Going to have a colonoscopy later today or tomorrow to visually see where the blood came from and see if it needs surgical repair.
Blood tests on hemoglobin has come back good so far .
So keep me in your prayers and thoughts..
Thanks,
WW

You're certainly in my thoughts, Woody.
My brother had a similar experience several years back and recovered completely, although he was sure it was the end at the time. He passed out in a gas station restroom from the blood loss and was lucky to have family with him, and be across the street from an ER at the time.
He turned out to have some ruptured polyps that needed removal, and IIRC followup checks found some more without the dramatic evidence a few years later and some more removals took care of the problem with no recurrences. His were invisible until the colonoscopy as well, despite his being thoroughly studied from head to foot for years with other medical conditions. Little or no warning with some of these things.
Sounds like the scariest possibilities have already been checked for and pretty much eliminated, so I fully expect the outcome to be complete recovery.

Absolutely Woody, we'll pray.
My mother has diverticulitis. She cannot eat anything with seeds, nuts, etc. They will get caught in the pockets caused by the condition. This gets infected and causes extreme pain. You haven't mentioned pain. This makes me curious. I would think that I was dying; she has a high pain tolerance, but still puts her down. Strong antibiotics help.
It's great that the tests are coming back good. How's your white blood cell count?
Did you pass out from pain or blood loss? ...both are bad.
Please keep us updated, and please let us know if there's ANYTHING that we can do. Any of us will drive 3 hours to cut your grass if you need it.

I had a colonoscopy 5-6 years ago and all I had then were diverticulosis. No polyps.
Gonna get prepped here soon for a colonoscopy hopefully later today. If not today in the morning..
I'm in good hands, both here in the hospital and with the Good Lord..

Absolutely no pain. The pass out had to be from loss of blood. My blood pressure is normally that of a teenager and IF I give blood I get weak kneed.
Hemoglobin count is good and goingback up..no bleeding overnight.
Thanks

That sounds rough. Hopefully it is nothing major and you'll be back out of there soon.

Had the same thing happen to me a little over a year ago. It was a blessing in disguise. I had 4 stents put in my heart and was put on blood thinner. A week later I started bleeding, it went on for a full day. My cardiologist set me up for a colonoscopy the next day. Long story short, he found a polyp the size of a golf ball, it wasn't cancerous but he said that in a little more time it would have been. If not for the heart problems I would more than likely not have found the problem until it was too late. Everybody that is over 50 and hasn't gotten a colonoscopy go get one. Good luck Woody, the worst part is the clean out before. I am praying for a good outcome.

However you can bet that I will pray for you butt.
Hope all goes well.

Despite the gore the odds are that it's nothing serious, could be as simple as a nicked bowel from something you ate. Likely heal on it's own. There's the positive thought I'm sending you, enjoy your Night of a Thousand Waterfalls in peace.

Hey, on a humorous side. I had a good friend who was scheduled for a colonoscopy on a Monday morning. Late Sunday, after he had just finished drinking all the prep, he got a call from the doctor's staff that the procedure had to be rescheduled. LOL He was so angry that he didn't try it again for another year.

Praying for ya Woody.
As for the fiber thing; Doc told me to start taking Metamucil about a year ago. I'm amazed with the difference it has made. If I had known, I would have been taking it 20 years ago.
