Sounds like a simple deal and a really good price. Much better than a .45 conversion. I'll have to give that some serious consideration when I get done building my AR. Got the lower put together yesterday. Can't decide whether to go with a rifle or carbine length barrel.

If it's any help, the 20" barrel on mine is longer than I wish it was. For whatever reason, mine seems longer and harder to manage going through the woods with a 20" barrel than a rifle/shotgun with a longer barrel. If you are primarily going to punch paper from a bench, a rifle length barrel is fine. If you are going to hunt with it much, get a carbine barrel.

Yeah, I know all about the rifle, I carried it more miles than I care to remember back in the day. The carbine does have it's advantages, though at the cost of muzzle velocity and accuracy. I'm thinking of going with the 16" in a mid-length gas system rather than a carbine length as a compromise.
Decisions, decisions..............
BTW, Rainier Arms has USGI 30 rounders in stock @ 15.95

I had an HBAR and I much prefer the 16" to it if you're going to lug it around.

After hours of research, I've decided to go with the 5.56 chambering rather than .223 unless someone can convince me otherwise.

There's no reason not to. External cartridge dimensions are the same. You can easily shoot .223 in a 5.56 chamber with no issues. Reversing that is when you get in trouble. 5.56 brass is a little thicker, thus developing higher pressures in the chamber. The 5.56 chambering will be stronger. Yep, no reason not to. Good choice. ;D

A trade off I'm willing to make considering I'm opting for the carbine length barrel and iron sights anyway. The ability to eat any ammo safely is a big plus IMO and the 5.56 chambering is no more expensive either.

Yet another reason to roll your own. I was able to get 3/4" groups out of mine with little load development, the trigger that came with the LPK, and a cheap scope. ;D

We haven't even dropped an upper into this one yet and already Jake is calling it "my rifle"

Well Hux, Carrie at least waited until she pulled the trigger on a live round before she claimed it as "her rifle". Now, I find her holding it from time to time, muttering something that sounds vaguely like "My Precious"! ;D

It's a free float YHM and it came with the upper assembly. They run about $150.00 give or take.
