Build one yourself and save a little money and perhaps more importantly, do it a piece or two at a time as you can afford it. The .308 lowers are a little harder to find but it can be done with some searching. It seems that the ammo and magazine prices are the big problem with the .308 in this platform.
BTW, TagTeam Smith and Wesson is supposed to be releasing a dedicated high capacity .22 LR AR for under $500 MSRP.

Remember if you build one you knock off a ton of money in the complete firearm excise tax. Its also fun to hunt down the parts you want/need and put them all together yourself. Its not difficult in the least to build your own.

I may give it a try, although small parts can be challenging for arthritic fingers.

Hmm, maybe I'll wait until the S&W rifle comes out. Priced out what I want it would be around $300.00. And after all that it is still a basic Ruger 10/22 under the hood.

Sig is supposed to be doing something similar with a .22 lr only version of the 556 as well so hopefully at least one of the two actually makes it to the shelves for the announced price.

I am a complete novice with black rifles ..... is there more to it than buying an upper and a lower then putting them together?

Depends. It you buy a complete upper and a complete lower then they attach with 2 pins. A lot of us build the lowers ourselves and a few even build the uppers as well. It gets a little more complicated at this point, and there are lots of little parts that go into these rifles.

Swilk, if you have any technical abilities at all you can build one of these rifles. Like Jajwrigh said, it can be that simple. By technical abilities I mean can you hit a nail with a hammer?

Did you get some extra mags for the .450? I just have 2. At $35 for a 5 rounder, I can't make sense out of having too many!! On another note, Remington now has some factory ammo for it now as well.

With the way things are right now, it can be harder to find the parts for the lower than it is to actually assemble it.

Okay, okay already. You guys talked me into it. I just ordered a LPK. If I keep hanging out here, I'll end up with lots of weaponry and no money.

I think most of us here built it "one piece at a time."
