Oh BTW, I no longer own an AR after taking it to the range this weekend. Apparently after shooting it the first time, Carrie decided that it was HER AR and I would just have to build myself another one. ;D I think I may have also lost my 1911 but only so long as I continue to reload some lighter loads for it. You have to give the girl credit, she has good taste!  You have a few lowers laying around anyway. |

My wife lost all un-happiness with my AR purchase after I got her to shoot it. After about the second pull of the trigger, I hear this little evil-ish sounding laugh come from her and I knew all would be right with the world. ;D Haven't had a chance for her to get "recoil-therapy" but once with it so far, but the weather is warming up! |

I'd go with a 223 for your first upper, I had a hard time deciding between 14.5 & 16 for the barrel. I kicked around optics for a while as well; I have a set of iron sights and a low power scope for mine. I still may pick up an Aimpoint as well. They really are the Lego's of firearms!

I wanted to keep things fairly simple and not spend a fortune on optics for my 5.45 build so I ended up choosing the Vortex StrikeFire. So far I'm pretty happy with it and it seems to be a good value for the price.

I'm set on going with the 223 and a telescoping stock. A 16" barrel is the shortest I'm considering. I'll probably end up buying a complete upper.

i bought a ciener conversion, from what i have found, they all made about the same, most places just put there name on it.. btw midway has the best price on them... 139.00 i think..most other places there 150-210 for the same kit...
