HUNTING INDIANA DAILY DEER HUNTING LOG
It has been suggested that the Hunting Indiana members try and keep a daily deer hunting log this season.
THIS IS IT!
This thread will be stickied on top of the Deer Hunting forum so that it will be handy to post and read.
Some information that would be good to have is:
DATE – So we can all keep track of what is going on.
DEER - Number of bucks, does, fawns, number of points on bucks seen, what they were doing, IE: feeding, traveling, chasing does, seeking does, etc.
OTHER CRITTERS - What other kind and number of any other wildlife seen.
WEATHER - Describe the weather conditions. Wind direction and speed, air temp, and time of day.
AND…
OTHER - Anything else that you might want to include about your deer-hunting outing.
The more we all participate the more we will get out of it.
TIA…
PS...
You can also put in your scouting trips here too, as well as other areas of the forum..

Was out scouting/ setting stand in the evening of 09/02 watched a bachelor herd of 6 walk past me after I had tightened down my stand and sticks. One really good buck,2 good to fair and 3 small guys gave such a warm fuzzy or maybe that was the catepillar crawling on my neck. Put out the traill cam in that area hope to get some pics of them. The trails look like highways. Sure has my blood pumping for season to get here.

I went squirrel hunting this evening and had a doe walk within 10 yards of me, until I scared the daylights out of her. ;D Thats 3 does I have seen in the same area about the same time of day, in the last couple of weeks.

Talked to my brother in law today{9-8) and he told me he had seen the big one on the property this week. We did not see him last season and thought some one had killed him as there was a report of a bowhunter who had stuck and lost a "Booner" on an adjoining property last year. My two oldest sons had a chance two seasons ago and both missed. He is rumored to be a 14 pt. typical and high and wide. I sure would like to get him in my sights. The stuff dreams are made of.

Saw 2 large does in the same area again tonight, in addition to the pair of squirrels I dropped. The logging efforts have brought some of the deer back to the woods.

Nearly ran over a large doe and 2 fawns on way to the farm today. She ran out of a standing corn field and stopped in the middle of the road and looked back. I was on the brakes instantly and she turned and ran on across, the two fawns followed into another corn field. They looked healthy. The food plot looks good. Not much deer sign yet. 9-16

The landowner, who also hunts, of my newest property called me Saturday as he was watching 4 bucks come out of the river bottom into a field to eat. This was at 5:30p.m. He said 2 of them had antlers out past their ears, and the other 2 were really small. I can't wait! I just put 2 stands up on his farm Saturday morning.

Was out Saturday evening and saw 3 does about hundred yards out at 8 pm. None close enough for a shot.

Hunted Urban Zone yesterday (Sunday, 9/17) morning. Got there late; there were 6-7 deer at the end of the pasture when I pulled in and they ran off before I could tell how many exactly and what they were. Didn't get into the woods until almost 7:30, and was sitting on a log by about 8:00. Saw one doe 60-70 yards away at about 8:30, but that's the only deer I saw while in the woods. On my way out, I did manage to shoot a buck! However, he had a bushytail and no antlers. ;D Woody, I thought about entering this in the deer contest thread! Later on that morning and early afternoon, I bushhogged some trails and got one ladder stand put up. Forgot the hang-on stand at home (*smacking forehead with palm*), but I did put up the ladder to get to it. The wind really picked up by about 9 or so in the morning and didn't quit all day. The squirrels were surprisingly active, even at ground level. That's how I managed to shoot that red.

So far out of three trips in that last two weeks it has been all turkeys spotted.
Now wait until October 1 and they wont be seen anywhere.

Didn't get any hunting done yesterday like I had hoped to do, but I did manage to get the one stand put up that I forgot last weekend. Helped Dad drag a ~200 gallon propane tank out of the creek (don't know where it came from for sure, it was hung up on a logjam), then we went to pull another stand that's been in a tree for a long time from a guy that used to hunt the property years ago. On the way up along the bean field we saw a spot in the beans about 10' diameter that was all torn up. Possibly bucks fighting but it's hard to say for sure. The deer certainly have been in the beans though!

Dad and I went out the other day. Got everything sighted in, stands all tightened, shooting lanes checked, feeders all in place, mineral licks ready. All we need now is October and deer.

Saw a nice young 8 pointer this morning on the way to work. Big bodied, river bottoms buck with great rack potential.
