Also, don't continually walk. If a rabbit is close, when you stop they tend to get nervous and want to get outta dodge when you are stopped or as soon as you take the first step.

I shot competition 3 position smallbore rifle in college. I'd always get nervous before a match, but was good enough towards the end of the first year that the coach would put me as the last shooter to "bat cleanup". One match I was extra nervous because we were behind the team we were shooting against and I couldn't get my nerves settled down. They had put their better shooters in the beginning of the line up and the guy that was on my relay wasn't as good as I was. I had a bigger than normal hole to dig out of. I shot like dog poop and he beat me. I remember him saying "I can't believe I shot better than he did".
Ever since that match I have been able to control the shakes. I get in a zone, sort of like tunnel vision. When it comes down to the time to squeeze the trigger the only thing that I see is the crosshairs, the particular spot on the deer that the bullet or arrow has to hit (or the bird if it's a clay bird) and what's behind it. Basically it's me, the gun, the target and the trigger.
After that one match, I could be at a match and if I was getting ready to squeeze the trigger, the coach could say something to me and I wouldn't hear him, only the range officer if it was a no shoot situation. Weird but it seems tunnel vision and selective hearing came together at that short window in time. I could hear the coach between shots. I haven't shot competition rifle in a long while, but back then I could also slow down my heart rate to have a longer pause between heartbeats. Right now when I'm relaxed, the heart rate is in the very low 60's and back then it was in the mid 50's when I was relaxed. I have no idea what it was during a match.
If I have a long window when I can see the deer (say as it's working it's way closer) after a bit I get shaky. But when the deer gets close enough that it's time to shoot I calm down. After the shot I get shaky again. If I have a short window between seeing the deer and shooting, I don't get shaky at all.

I get it but I can control it. I think the more deer you see, the more you can get used to them being there and it gets less and less.

I'll be out tomorrow morning early, walking to see what trails they are using. Easy enough to do with the 2"-3" snow on the ground.

Take 2 ratchet straps. Attach the hook part to the part of the ladder stand that contacts the tree. Once you get the stand up against the tree, take those 2 straps, cross them behind the tree, attach them to the lower rung of the ladder part and tighten then down. That keeps the top part anchored to the tree while you climb up and put another strap around the tree up there and tighten that one down. You can remove those 2 now or leave them there.

I have a Lansky diamond sharpening set which works great. Someone about 2 years ago put up a link to a sharpening "thingy" that has 2 round steel discs that you drag the knife over. That works great once you have the angles set and the knife sharp. It is a really quick touch up. Sharpening steel won't sharpen a DULL knife, but it will put an edge back on one if it's just not as sharp as it was. I have a 1" Harbor Freight belt sander and you can buy different grits on-line AND a leather belt to put buffing compound on. The only caveat I have for that is to use it with the sharp edge of the knife on the away part of the belt. i.e. if the belt is coming towards you, you want to have the edge of the knife towards you too, so the edge doesn't catch in the belt. ESPECIALLY the leather belt......

Hoses pulled, outside lines drained and I have water running through others that can't be shut off and drained yet. Will leave them run like that until Thursday when it warms back up.

Beautiful! I haven't found any in all, and I'm looking in all the historically great spots. Last year I was too late and they all went to "seed" already, so none were picked.

I keep one of these in my chainsaw kit that I take to the woods. Might be a good idea to get another for the vehicle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_BandageIt's in a vac sealed plastic bag. If the vac is lost, you know the sterility has been compromised and to get a new one. My personal feelings are that if the deer isn't dead, it's getting shot with whatever I'm hunting with until it IS dead. No way am I going to try and use a knife to kill it.

Pulled 4 trail cam cards. One cam had 1600 pics, mostly turkeys and 90% nighttime deer movement. No bucks even relatively close to shooter status. The other 3 cams had nothing. I need to see what I screwed up on one cam, the other 2 cuddeback cams are old and not working like they should. I will see if they can fix them or if I should just buy new ones. Here's what the pics look like from one of them. The other said "SD Full" but nothing on it.

Looks good. I am enjoying ground blinds more every year and use them often now. I've made a couple rests out of same tripod you show. Two favorite are an 8" long vee cradle with drop down for the pistol grip on TC Encores (works with any style gun), and a c-clamp type with home made padded jaws. The best part is they hold the gun in position, so you dont have to make much movement to get ready. AMD the gun doesn't fall off when you fall asleep in the chair..... ROFL

I switched to lighted nocks a number of years back and won't hunt or target shoot without them. You can see where the arrow went in flight, and find it easier once it's on the ground.

I'm tempted to get a few hunts in back there anyway. I was hunting there before that kid was even born. Lol! I'd go talk to the landowner and see how many people are supposed to be hunting there. And verify that you still have permission.

In college, deer hunting in Wi with Rem 742 in 30-06. Walking with my cousin in the big woods up north in Wisconsin. We saw a buck and a doe, buck was on my side, doe was on his. 1,2,3 shoot! I had no idea where to aim for a running shot and both deer took off running. I missed the first shot and (now I know) on the 4th shot it flipped foreward. I swung to the doe and the gun just clicked. When we got to the buck we had to do some looking. I had hit the one antler at the base, breaking the skull and shooting the antler off.
I shot a Pronghorn buck out in Wyoming with the .257 Weatherby around 300 yds. At the shot, it reared up, danced around on it's hind legs, then fell over, dead. My buddy took a phone video of it through the binoculars and my cousin is in the background saying something about a prancing horse.
