"Rolling on and (pickup) truckin". Work with me here in my singing talents. Lol.
Heading down to WV for a visit to wifes kin folk, for a very much needed break in life. We go a time or two a year to say hey. Her mamaw is gettin old and feeble, so we gotta make the trips count.
I get to screw around with her uncle, a deaf mute. He is one of a kind, awesome hunter, craftsman, mechanic, welder, fabricator, carpenter, cook, etc. Unbelievable self taught talents like no other. Luke always asks how uncle Roger and I can communicate so good. I say idk, we are so like minded, same interests, similar talents, etc. We spend 3-4 days together and never skip a beat. Even the mamaw and aunt's ask me "what is Roger saying?" when he's describing something. They dont even use standard sign language, they have their own version. I dont know any of it! Just a few standard motions, but mostly a nod, a wink, and paying attention is all we need. Every time we go, I'm in the middle of helping fix something, his truck, tractor, mower, tools and machines, make knives, etc. We go up in the mountains and ride quads. He takes Luke fishing, we scout and check stands, and he squirrel hunts.
It's a blast and we have the time of our lives. I'll post a few picks along the way and after. Looking forward to going to Hillbilly Hotdogs again, in Lesage, WV for a treat. It's a hoot!

I worked with a deaf mute in the money counting room of a casino. When I first started I wondered how was I going to communicate with him. It wasn't long before we were using facial movements, hand gestures, and head nods to "talk" back and forth. It was remarkable how much we could say without words. At the end of the day we would sit and write messages back and forth.
Have fun on your trip.

We get over to the east in Charleston for a Cabelas trip, and wander around Ashland, KY area. They are originally from Jackson, KY, way back in the hills and hollers. Lots of down home folks, some really rough individuals, but great areas to visit and get away.

After checking them out, I’m gonna have to make Hillbilly Hotdogs a stop the next time we head out to visit my son in Salem, VA. We usually stay in Huntington if we overnight. And we seem to find time to get some brisket at Buddy’s BBQ shack. One of our favorite sites to visit it’s the West Virginia State Museum. It’s right next to the State Capitol. wvstatemuseumed.wv.gov/index.htmlJust for the heck of it, I drove from my parent’s in LaPorte IN to Charleston WV, All the way, traveling US-35!

Every time I drive through West Virginia I am struck by the beauty and ruggedness. They only time I spent more than a day was at Snowshoe for some skiing when I was at Bragg. The drive back to it was awesome.

Trip is going great. Trouble free drive down, rained off and on. Temps good. Everybody doing well, typical positive experience.
Color change is here and it's an awesome sight.
Getting a visit later from an aunt and uncle from Clayhole, KY. Last year, several of their neighbors trailers washed away in a bad flood. Several deaths. Their side of the road and Creek was unscathed!
Tomorrow visiting another aunt and uncle in Jackson, KY. They havent seen Luke since he was a baby. Boy are they gonna be shocked! Their grandson is 13yo too, and he's a 5ft beanpole of about 100#!
