Nice dusting of snow in KY. On coyote patrol this morning since I dont plan to shoot another deer here this year. Left the food plots and got up in the woods this morning, been great so far. 8-10 does, really hard to say when some cone through chasing. 2 passing by to my right as i type this. 5 different bucks, 4 scrawny things and 1 decent one running a doe to death. Probably only sit til 9ish this morning so I can get back home today.

Was drawn for the early hunt this coming monday & tuesday and I cant seem to find a map online showing off limits areas for the hunt, specifically if Mink Island is fair game? Can anyone point me in the right direction? If you’ve never hunted there before I would advise not going early to get in first and wait and see where everyone is parked and go in somewhere they aren’t. Or wait and scout Sunday as late as you can. We hunted it last year, scouted couple days before, found a good spot for partner and I to cover each end. We got there stupid early, first in line. Get to our spot head out, use climbers, get settled, only to see headlamps coming at us. I flashed one guy several times. Never seen his light again. Heard a buck freshening scrapes right at daybreak in the thicket head straight to me. Then BOOM!! Apparently the guy didn’t leave but climbed in a ladder stand he hung Sunday and he was 45 yards from me. There was another guy that walked in past me and he stood at the bottom of the ridge 200 yards away with his headlamp on until the sun came up. I flashed him to, several times. Guess he was scared of the dark. And apparently heights cause he was standing next to a ladder stand that wasn’t there on Saturday when we scouted either. It was a real shhh show. They really need to block off areas before someone gets shot. My cousin told me to wait and drive around to see where everyone was but I didn’t listen. Here’s a rub we found while scouting Totally agree with you. Ive been once, around 2008 or so. Went in blind but was 1 of the first in, parked and set up. Come day break I had 2 guys within range of me and kept seeing people walking. I sat til noon and got lucky to kill an 8pt walking to my truck.. I was actually nervous to shoot not knowing who might be close by. Definately a cluster but hadnt done it in a few years so figured id try again.

Not live from the stand but finally day dreaming about it a little here at work. By far my least hunted season so far, only have 3 cameras out that have been checked once each maybe. Not sure whats up but just cant get excited this year..possibly some public land issues that have been adding up but who knows.
I DO KNOW that im excited as can be to get away to Kentucky for the gun opener again! Cant wait to head out Friday and spend a few days on some amazing private ground and watch some deer do their thing, maybe get lucky and bring one home

In Ky and if I hunt private in Indiana, Ruger American 30/06.
Opening weekend ill probably sit with my daughter on pyblic and we'll just take her .357.
If I go solo in public Ill probably take the TC Triumph.

Yes if the bundle is "used as an archery tag" within the archery tag limits...same with muzzleloader.
You cant kill your 2 archery deer and then a doe on a bundle because it would technically count as a bonus antlerless.
Basically you can do anything you normally would EXCEPT kill bonus antlerless deer...antlerless that fall under regular tag quotas are fine.

Here's some odd advice I didn't think I'd ever give, watch for others bait on public...
Went in a few days ago to take care of a youth weekend set. Get finished and sit down to enjoy the view and see another stand 100yds away. Walk that way on my way out and theres an obvious mineral site 10yds away with a camera over it.... It's been turned in and expect a nice ticket for the people but now we cant legally hunt the spot.

I'll have to search more later and maybe find what you're talking about. I'm curious of any details of incidents not on the video.
As far as acting weird around vehicles, you don't hunt much public do ya? You'd think I was burying bodies if you saw me running and hiding from every vehicle that comes by.

You should look into whitetail adrenaline. It’s all public land hunting and I met the members of the show at the Indiana deer and turkey expo. If you have internet, check out carbonTV. It’s free and there are a ton of shows to choose from. Publically owned properties but not always open for public hunting....they have been caught 3 times I have heard and once I know of for sure in MN by law hunting ground that is owned by state's or federal but not open for hunting.... Have you seen the videos? One of the latest ones covers the mishaps. I don't remember the details but wasn't exactly intentional. Seem like a decent bunch of guys.

The public ground I shot this buck at is known to hold some great genetics. We chased some great bucks there over the last few years. Thank you. I don't know if I'll follow the fb groups next year. Seeing the up and comers dropping like flies that we knew from trail cams and encounters starts to get to me after a while. Everybody is free to do as they wish, I just don't want to know about it.

Im no expert but we've been very happy with the Bear Apprentice II. Honestly don't even know if it's a current model?
My daughter has shot it since she was maybe 8 or 9? She's 12 now and weve easily adjusted it every year and killed 2 deer with it last year.

I just picked up this gun on a whim earlier today. It was our Wal-Mart's last muzzleloader on the rack so I offered $150 to the dept manager... She said she had to call the manager as they were already losing 35$ at the 199 price. He didn't answer and she decided to take it.
Never had a Traditions but Becca could use a muzzleloader in her arsenal and at 150 bucks figured I couldn't go wrong

Just got out to the cornfield again. Hasn't been bothered in 2 weeks since Becca killed here, hoping it's still seeing some traffic. Weatherman called for a west wind that is perfect for this edge but it seems to be doing a little of everything at the moment.

Evening hunts over cut corn but even moreso standing beans is the way to go this time of year has been my experience. I can't say I've ever seen the beans left up past October anywhere I've had the chance to hunt.

In my opinion, and I'm not requesting that anyone agree with me, Busbice, Brackett, and Spann are the most egregious. I also happen to dislike all of them, way before said violations, so maybe I'm just biased? How did that horse's arse Gregg Ritz not gen mentioned? Was he not personally responsible for the violations in KY? Regarding Spann..I remember reading his side of it a whole back. Basically on the buck he killed, he had what was basically a landowner tag purchased as he did own ground but ended up killing the deer on ground he leased and was in the process of buying and now currently owns. Then the turkey incident, he wasn't carrying a gun but was calling/guiding for others on some sort of special hunt..possibly charity, I don't remember exactly. Either way it seems his weren't as cut and dry as the article IMO anyways. But that was his side so who knows.
