Well fortunately If I don't shoot a deer my family won't starve. last year I passed on a doe and later on a small 8-point at JE Roush hoping the doe would go make babies and the buck would grow bigger for this year maybe or next. I pride myself in knowing that land down there pretty well I've scouted all of it. There's definitely areas the average hunter would never venture for the pain it would take to get there. But I'd say total on 500+ acres there were maybe 5 deer. Whereas a couple years ago at least 15+ or more. I'm pretty good at finding them. Just bummed to see the numbers so low last year.

I'd say maybe just have special rules for public land. Again many do. The two F&W spots by me do not allow use of bonus permits. I think most people are aware of the fact there's no bonus antlerless on public land. I guess what I'm suggesting is maybe a 1 and done on public land or 1 antlerless and 1 buck with a 6-point minimum. Currently if you hunt archery, rifle and muzzleloader you can take up to 4 deer. And the only way to see more deer is to shoot less deer.

Hey benj, the property I hunt is JE Rousch FWA in Markle. Maybe I don't see many deer because they all get since it's public land who knows, makes for some boring days hunting though.

I'd suggest suspending the bonus antlerless in Huntington county, maybe even cutting the harvest back to 1 doe, 1 buck. Seems like if you shoot less deer, less deer die, more deer live and there's more to shoot at next year. But that's just my theory

As a hunter I like to see a good number of deer. Last year when I was hunting public land I only saw 1 buck and a pair of does, probably a doe with a yearling. So I wish I saw more deer and I'm thinking if the bag limits were lowered I'd see more. Then again I realize public land hunting can be brutal.

It's nice to see the does with the fawns. When they come in by me I set my weapon aside and just watch them living their lives. Those fawns are blessed adorable. It's one thing I enjoy about hunting, observing the beauty of nature.

. I don't spend much time rifle hunting. In face I spend probably 3-4 days at it. Most of my hunting is with a bow. However for traditions sake I do enjoy sitting in a ground blind "scoping" for deer during gun season. This week I ordered a sun shade for my 40mm Nikon buckmaster II. Is this something you remove when light turns to dusk on your hunt or does the shade improve vision in low light similar to wearing a ball cap to keep the sky out of your eyes at night?

I rarely miss a shot but when I do.. I miss gloriously and the deer run away happily unscratched!

Ok experts out there, how old is a 6-point buck? I've got a couple on my property. They don't look that old but I am NOT an expert on how to age a deer!

Q. Will the shot be a clean kill? Take the shot. If there's a chance you'll wound the animal do not take the shot regardless of where your shoot it. A head shot sounds like a fools idea.

I wish I had the problem of too many deer on my place:) as for restrictions- I think private land owners should have more control of their own deer population and put the restrictions on public land where hunters are less caring about the deer population.

Communism. Let the people fish. Let the people hunt. Quit over-regulating and get a real job. They must be bored at the capital inventing these new restrictions on hunting, guns and driving laws in the state of Michigan.

Heck if you've got 10 does running around your place go for it. At my place I have seen only one doe to the 5 bucks I've seen on trail camera. Want to boost your herd let the does live. Otherwise shoot

I picked up a wild game innovations terra6 and returned it because it wasn't taking pictures, I then bought a wild game innovations cloak8 for $69 from Rural King comes with SIM card and battery. Takes great pics, 2,years old now. I picked up a stealth cam this year for $69 and it seems like cheap plastic compared to the cloak8. Time will tell
