“We’re working to develop an online system in which all hunters can give us feedback each year, and do so immediately after their hunting season is over,” Caudell said.
That's interesting.

“We’re working to develop an online system in which all hunters can give us feedback each year, and do so immediately after their hunting season is over,” Caudell said. That's interesting. I had reached out to Joe back in May after the meeting with what I would like to see. His response is encouraging that they are serious about taking a step in the right direction for getting citizens' input. If implemented correctly, it seems to me that a certain group's cause would become redundant.

Hmm...article right in my backyard basically. Never have met or heard of Mr. Scott...but I appreciate the fact he didn't interject speculation or "myths" and stuck to reporting to what Joe told him. Kudos for that.

From the article....
It would be nice to have a way for more hunters to have input in the process. Then the DNR could take the hunter data, factor that in with the other data mentioned in the article (crop damage reports from farmers, deer/vehicle collisions reported to police officials, previous year’s harvest numbers) and set the quotas based on what would hopefully be clean information not biased by a few small groups purporting to speak for most hunters.

Extreme north bordering Michigan. I wish I could make it to the gathering but I'll be dove hunting the 1st, 2nd & 3rd.

As a hunter I like to see a good number of deer. Last year when I was hunting public land I only saw 1 buck and a pair of does, probably a doe with a yearling. So I wish I saw more deer and I'm thinking if the bag limits were lowered I'd see more. Then again I realize public land hunting can be brutal.

How low do you think the bag limits should be and how would you determine that number?

I'd suggest suspending the bonus antlerless in Huntington county, maybe even cutting the harvest back to 1 doe, 1 buck. Seems like if you shoot less deer, less deer die, more deer live and there's more to shoot at next year. But that's just my theory

I'm near Roanoke, and have personally seen several family groups in the area, with most buck sightings from trail camera pictures. However, the area I hunt in does have pretty good resources in the form of ag fields, wooded cover, CRP fields, and the small amount of habitat work I've done on my property. I know I'm not the only hunter in the area, as I hear many shots during the opening week of gun season(probably not all hits though), and from what I've observed, the herd seems to be fine. I believe the area is a strong factor though.

Hey benj, the property I hunt is JE Rousch FWA in Markle. Maybe I don't see many deer because they all get since it's public land who knows, makes for some boring days hunting though.

Public land can definitely seem like a barren desert. I started hunting Hoosier National Forest when I was 12. Didn't shoot my first deer until I was 16. I learned a whole lot about patience and persistence in those 4 years. I'm definitely a better hunter because of it. It just seemed like it started to get less frustrating after that, as you learn what to expect based on where you're hunting.
