I don't see the point......(see what I did there)....LOL.
Why do we have to keep messing with things? If you want to kill a 1 1/2 year old buck...do it! If you want to hold out for a 6.5 year old six pointer with a 12" spread...do it! If you want to fill your freezer with a doe...do it!
A "trophy" is truly in the eye of the beholder and your opinion of what a trophy is may be very different from mine.
Doesn't make either one of us wrong, as long as it's legal.

I don't see how anyone could argue with this article, but I'm sure we have some guys who can figure out how to do it.
Actually, I think it would ruin the sport to institute an APR. It would take some of the personal joy out of it for me. I'd really like to get one of my tall antlered deer where the antlers seem to go straight up and split. I've seen them tall, and for some reason, this excites me.
However, I'll abide by whatever the people in charge decide or move on to something else.

Communism. Let the people fish. Let the people hunt. Quit over-regulating and get a real job. They must be bored at the capital inventing these new restrictions on hunting, guns and driving laws in the state of Michigan.

My personal choice and style agrees with APRs however, I also cannot defend them for everyone. Now I would hear arguments for APRs on a 2nd buck tag if we lived in a TBR state.

That deer gets shot 9 out 10 times....
Personally a one Buck rule is really all most states need.

Most 1 1/2 year old 6 pointers would still be fair game if 3 points on one side were the rule. It might save a few forkies and spikes, but is that going to make a big difference in the quality of the herd?

Age restriction is the only thing that would work and of course it would never work. Nor should it...let folks kill whatever they want to kill. But only one of em...
Now if we wanted to talk a second EAB type thing then we could talk about which imperfect system is the best imperfect system to go with. All have their drawbacks.
Width? I have a 148" 11 pointer (5.5 years old I think) that is only 13" wide.
Points per side? Like Woody posted, there are some impressive older bucks out there that wouldn't make the cut.
Age? They don't carry around their birth certificates so how is a guy supposed to "know" under field conditions?

People who like that stuff should move to the states where they like to hunt better.

I know they've had some success with APR's in select counties in northern Michigan and Missouri. Antler quality has improved considerably a few years after implementation.
Don't think I'd really want it here. Most of our land is private and we land owners can control the harvest any way they want as is. I'd hate to tell a 12 year old kid he had to pass up a nice shot at a fat six pointer.

I don't like APR. If a guy wants to shoot a 1.5 year old spike to put meat in his freezer than he should be allowed to. I like to shoot big bucks as much as the next guy. But if it's late in the season and my freezer isn't full, the young bucks better not walk in front my my tree stand. Big antlers look good hanging on the wall but the meat feeds my family. I know which one is more important.

I know which one is more important. Plus, in 2012 and 2013 (EHD) between my brother and I and we both hunt many hours (brother is retired) and I was the only one to see a (1) buck in two years. Even most times not a deer, so I took a 3.25" spike and my brother took a doe for 2012. ON 2013 I took my buck in Ohio and my brother took a small 8. Only saw few deer both season. They can't predict when or where EHD will strike !
