So I’m wondering how to optimize my time in the woods tomorrow. I prefer evenings this time of year for predictable movement, but that cold front morning has to get them moving. Thoughts?

Had one in my back yard the last couple of days that must have been a VERY late fawn. Still small, still spots everywhere. Was playing with another fawn that had lost its spots - still brown but much bigger.

Great buck, Bill! I hunted Thursday evening at my lease. Watched two doe in the field for an hour. Got within 60 yds but never closer. Took the day off Friday and decided to try some public I'd never hunted before. Spent several hours scout/hunting. Leaves and sticks too dry to be very quiet. Walked up on a bedded 6 pt buck and later scared a few does out of beds. Found a few potential spots but unfortunately some stands where I had hoped to set up, and a trail cam set up by the only big scrape I found. No fresh rubs yet, but lots of old ones!

Purchased a few things I decided I needed. Arranged for a lease for the first time, and have been there a couple times to scout, set up stands, cameras, and clear shooting lanes. Bought a new bow, but need more time to practice to really feel dialed in. Sent several letters to nearby properties asking for permission...got one pleasant rejection and the rest never replied. Watched lots of Hunting Public videos and listened to several Deer University podcasts. I think that pretty much covers it!

Well...I believe I lined up a shared lease for this year. It's a reasonable price and the situation seems good. Going to check it out Thursday evening and then will finalize my commitment. Worth a shot!

I went with a Matthews Vertix. There were several options that I could have been happy with, but I liked a lot of things about this one and it was slightly used, so that saved me some $. Looks great and shoots really nice.

Thanks, all, this is really helpful!
Seems like everything else in life - you win some, you lose some, and not every situation is the same. But a viable way to get good hunting access if you can afford it and look for an ideal opportunity.
Probably goes without saying, but I'd be open to splitting something if the right situation came up.

Like pretty much everybody else, I'd love to find a better place to hunt. Have been watching lease options for a year or so but haven't taken the plunge. Seems like a lot of $ to rent a place to hunt for a few days, but when I look at what property ownership would cost (loan interest + annual taxes + maintenance costs + gas to/from for maintenance, etc.) it's actually not so bad.
Who has bit the bullet and leased land? Did you have success? Choose to renew? Any tips or tricks?
Just fishing for perspectives from people who have actually done it...

Thanks all who recommended Honey Creek. I had a good experience there and ended up buying a really nice barely used bow there this weekend.

No pics this time but just had five bucks walk through at last light. Two or three were play fighting but nothing intense. All still holding, and it looked like a fork and four eight pointers.

I drive a Prius V. I'll definitely make sure I watch carefully when I'm backing up out of my driveway in the mornings!

I'm a (lousy) bowhunter and I don't work on my own bow, so from time to time I need repair/maintenance/setup help from an archery shop. I bought my current bow while in Minnesota and I've hit a couple different spots here when I needed to. The discussion in the Athens Archery thread made me realize I'd do well to pick a "home shop" and build a relationship (and allocate my dollars wisely to ensure they stay in business!) so I figured I'd ask...anybody have strong recommendations for an Indy-area shop?
I live in the Oaklandon/Lawrence area of Indy and pretty much everything Indy-area is within an hour's drive, so location convenience isn't a primary concern.

I don't really have a home shop. I've never been there, but Backyard Archery in Noblesville is probably closest. The shop at Koteewi is probably 30 minutes away. Deer Track in Anderson is about the same, but haven't been there either. The Outdoorsman Sport Shop is about 45 minutes away.

I wish there was an Indy area dealer. I don't work on my own bows other than really simplistic stuff, and since the local shops aren't selling the bow, I expect a full setup adds a significant cost.

Appreciate the analysis and suggestions. My friend still-hunted through the area again yesterday to give it another sweep and also didn't see anything, for what it's worth. I'll never know for sure. I did find one clear set of tracks where he turned and ran up the hill after the shot but wasn't able to follow it more than a couple of steps before there were no imprints.
