Looking to bag a tom this season, probably going in KY the 14th. Here's my question...
I have a couple wal-mart specials ($10 hen and jake), but was wondering if there was a good decoy(s) in the $50 range that would be good for a semi-beginner hunter to use?

You may have seen my post on the turkey forum, but I wanted to extend an invitation to our Sportsmen's Banquet coming up on April 8 at 6:00 pm. This is a family-friendly event where everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy themselves, perhaps win some door prizes, and see a first-class outdoorsman's presentation. Our guests are Chad Shearer and his family, hosts of Shoot Straight TV (you can get this show if you have the sportsman's channel). Chad does about 50 of these events per year, and is very enjoyable to hear. He plans to do some of his world championship elk calling, a turkey calling seminar, and a slideshow presentation of his many hunting experiences. You will not regret coming to hear him.
This is NOT a fundraiser. We just want to host an event where you can come with your family, perhaps bring a friend or someone who is into or just getting into hunting, and have a great time. That's why it's only $10. Also, if you come in camo, you and your family can get your family picture taken and sent to you, courtesy of our church. If you're interested, check us out hereā¦ www.boekeroadbaptist.orgwww.facebook.com/evvsportsmensbanquetStephen

You are close to Kentucky, and Illinois also. There is some great Waterfowl Hunting about 2 hours southwest of you down along the Mississippi River and in the Reelfoot lake area along the Kentucky/ Tennessee border. Thanks man! I'll check it out. Do you hunt down there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

@woody Williams - That would be awesome!! I'm going to be moderating the event, so if y'all come let me know in advance and I'll save everyone a table.
Btw, this is a family event. Anyone can come! Looking forward to meeting you guys.

BTW - an outhouse blind is pretty tight. Not a whole lot of room for much and maneuverability is hampered a lot.. That's kind of what I am worried about the most.

I'm fairly new to turkey hunting, and I wanted to ask you guys for some advice... When it comes to hunting turkey from a ground blind, is an outhouse blind sufficient? Someone got me one for Christmas and I was planning on using it. I know doghouse blinds are more spacious.
The main concern I have is actually sticking my gun out one of the windows and accidentally busting the birds.
Any of you guys hunt with an outhouse blind? Any tips for me?

I drove past the State Hospital on Lincoln and saw at least several hundred geese on their grounds.. Woody, are you sure you were just "driving past" the Evansville State Hospital? Took the kids by there last week and spotted 3 banded birds. Oh, so tempting! Oh yeah, or behind Cracker Barrel either one!

Here are a few successes I had in 2013. Unfortunatly, all of them were taken out of state (Ducks in WA, geese in WI, and deer in KY)! Still meeting folks here in Indiana and increasing my local hunting knowledge. The buck was my first. God was definitely good to me! Only hunting I was unsuccessful on was for turkey, but planning to change that this year.

moose1am DUCKMASTER1 - Thanks for the pointers. Yeah I'm finding it very hard to hook up with hunting partners. I've hunted both Hovey and Bluegrass, but without a boat Hovey is tough and then Bluegrass is loaded with sky blasters lol. I did contact DU once, but the guy wasn't too helpful. I'll check again though. Thanks again for the responses... kills me that I'm not out today getting a last shot at some ducks! lol
