I got my soil sample results back from Whitetail Institute, thought I’d share what one of their reports looked like. I like that I can tell them what I want to plant, and they give me exact lime and fertilizer recommendations. Overall the soil in this new plot is not bad, a lot better than it was in my main food plot when I established it. This area is about 1/3 acre currently, so a few bags of lime and fertilizer and should be good to go.

I bet a quota would of zero would trigger a lawsuit, but who knows.
I don’t necessarily like how it happened, but I am happy that we are getting a season.
I don’t know about running with dogs, that sure sounds fun, but properties are pretty small around here for that style of hunting.
Everywhere I know of with a bobcat season allows night hunting. Not saying they all do, but most.

I mailed some dirt yesterday also. Getting a new plot started back in the woods.

I sleep on a cot 30+ nights a year. I have a generic version of the Outfitter XL and like it a lot. I just have a thin foam pad, but add folded quilts for extra padding and warmth.
After a good tent and a cot, next must-have comfort item is a propane heater.

I put one in a Mossberg rifle several years ago. I don’t remember a lot about how it went in, but do remember that it was an easy job. I’m happy with it.

Man I’d love to, that sounds like an awesome time. We’ve got a big spring break trip in late March, otherwise I’d probably be in.
Hope you have a good time and knock down a couple toms.

I’ve got several cameras in the area, none aimed right at it though. Maybe I’ll get out and pull cards sometime soon.

I posted this in the bobcat discussion, but thought it was interesting enough for its own thread. Found this fawn drug up under a cut cedar today. I’m thinking a bobcat kill. I saw this deer a couple weeks ago, its lower leg was broken about 6” up from the hoof, but otherwise looked healthy. Partially buried: Bite to the neck?

I found this tonight out on the property. This deer had a broken lower leg, but I’m thinking a bobcat finished it off. I saw it a couple weeks ago looking healthy, other than the leg. I just thought that it was interesting enough to share here. Drug up under a cedar I cut about a year ago: Partially buried: Bite wound on back of neck? Hard to tell.

I think they’re setting that up for when we have CWD. But yeah, that’s worded pretty vaguely.

They want us to stop the bill?? LOL Down here in SW Indiana we have a lot of bobcats, almost as many as coyotes. The squirrels have taking a large hit & I would bet the rabbit & turkeys have been hit hard too. I don't know because I don't hunt those. Let the hunting begin is what I say. No where near as many bobcats as you do coyotes. Not even close. Plenty of rabbits and turkeys in southern indiana. I hunt lawrence and orange. Definitely not a loss of squirrel either. It's not the cats. It's the habitat and as far as turkeys, look to nest robbing predators and habitat I don’t know how the bobcats/coyotes stack up population wise in my area, but I do know that with about a dozen cameras out I get bobcat pics 10 to 1 over coyotes.

Simple overview is that the supreme court ruled against an Obama era EPA rule that never fully took effect, so basically no change to status quo.
I am not knowledgeable about the fore mentioned Indiana bill.

I'm at a training class at a technical college today. The bathroom options are "women" and "all genders". There is not a men's room. There is a basket of feminine hygiene products 3' away from the urinals. These are some crazy times. Surprised they even have urinals then. 🙄 Well, at least half of those genders are men, so..

Any hunter opposed to bobcat harvest should do some reading on the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
If there is no biological reason that the bobcat population couldn’t sustain a controlled harvest, then on principle alone there should be a means of legal take, just like any other game. Shouldn’t matter whether any one hunter personally wants to take a bobcat or not, and we shouldn’t have to show any proof of the bobcats negative effect on other bird and small game species.
The is the NAMWC in action.
