Does anyone camp out in a tent anymore? Looking for suggestions for a cot. Xtra size. Car camping so weight don't matter. I'll be able to drive to sight. Bought the tent and way bigger than needed. Plenty to fit any cot. I want to be comfy. I've read plenty of reviews but want real life reviews.

I'll have to look at Cabelas to see if the same model is there now. It is wide and long, I also bought the pad that goes on it. For tent camping, get a couple of 2x4's or 2x6's and set the cot up. Place the wood under the legs and mark. Use a Forster bit and drill 1/2 way through the wood. Round the bottom corners and that way the cot legs won't be trying to poke through the bottom of the tent. Mine is VERY comfortable. I've used it for 12 days in a row elk hunting, and have used it numerous times other than that. It's comfy enough to be used as an extra bed for 1 person. This is the closest that they have now to the one that I have. www.cabelas.com/shop/en/cabelas-big-outdoorsman-cot-with-lever-armI don't see the pad that I have, but one that fits the cot makes it more comfy. I also have the "night stand" thingy that hangs on the side of the cot.

I went on two camping trips in Colorado for 2 weeks each. The first trip I used a Cabela's XL cot. It was fine for the first week and a half but then it started bothering my hips for the last few nights. I've used this cot on a lot of other shorter camping trips and it works fine. You can put a yoga mat on it for a little extra padding.
My second trip to Colorado I packed a tall full size air mattress. I slept great the entire trip. I actually slept better there than I do at home but I think that was just the difference in air.

Get a sturdy, well built cot and then focus on a quality pad for the cot...the pad makes all the difference IME.

It’s been a long time since I slept on a cot but I’ll tell you this - cot or no cot an air mattress is your friend!

We have the tall inflatable queen and put a mattress topper on it. Super comfortable probably a lot to pack though. I had a cot I just couldn't get comfortable on it.

I sleep on a cot 30+ nights a year. I have a generic version of the Outfitter XL and like it a lot. I just have a thin foam pad, but add folded quilts for extra padding and warmth.
After a good tent and a cot, next must-have comfort item is a propane heater.

I second/third getting a great pad for the cot. I then use a sleeping bag on the cot. The wood stove kept the tent so warm that I had to use the sleeping bag as a blanket - I was waaayyyyy too warm inside it.

As I've gotten older I have found that getting up off of an air mattress is difficult. Swinging my legs off of a cot seems easier to me. I slept on an air mattress on a bow hunt in October crawling off the mattress and out of the tent ESPECIALLY to take care of business at about 2:00 am was not fin or easy. Next time I will try a cot.

Lol.. I’m right there with you! Never get on the ground or floor unless you have a plan to get back up

Even take a couple half lengths to level if need be.

I used some PVC end caps under my cot legs to keep them from poking through the tent floor. I had some laying around the garage and wanted to find a use for them.

I've got several of the Cabelas XL cots along with the 2" canvas covered foam pad made for them and find them to be quite comfortable. Having a cot up off the floor is way better than on the floor. Also good if tent is big enough to stand up and walk around in, plus have a chair to sit in for putting on boots, etc.
Regarding the plumbing issue, a Gatorade bottle is a must.

I’ve been considering buying a hot tent and wood stove, I like the idea of camping in the winter ice fishing or hunting.
