I've been perusing FB Marketplace looking for a 4Runner. I cant believe that FB allows so many scammers on there. Several scammers list a particular 4Runner and when you check the person's profile they have that same vehicle listed as being from maybe 30 different cities. There are three different ones going on now.. All that does is make it more difficult to wade through the real listings. Every third or fourth listing then is the same scam vehicle. Report it and then they come back under a different name and continue on. Most of those are at a price that no one would sell for. Example - a 2008 4Runner Limited - $1200. One had a 2001 4Runner that only had 20,000 miles on it. Looking at the pictures - Nope that baby had been rode hard and put up wet. Odometer roll back no doubt. A few fly by night "dealers" list a low price and when you open it up to take a look at it - sorry, that "price" in the posting was a "down payment". Ask a seller for undercarriage pictures and most times you never hear from them again. Next thing you know its sold. Some sucker didn't ask for the undercarriage pictures. A few live in Florida and are selling their 4Runner in Chicago. I'll keep looking and separating the wheat from the chaff.

It's crazy the amount of scams on there. Even local ones. I was looking at a fish finder earlier this week and as soon as I asked if I could hook it up to a battery to see if it worked...crickets.

Sounds like a real pain. What you are describing is why I tend to drive my vehicles until they are completely used up. I hate car shopping. Best of luck in your quest.

And I got a lifetime ban from marketplace....for what reason? Who knows. Bought and sold stuff for close to 10 years. The scammers were bad.

If you are friends with a good used car dealer they can locate what your looking for....if it exists.

I bought my last vehicle on Govdeals. Don’t see a lot of Toyotas on there though.

I’ll keep my eyes open around Evansville. See cars for sale not listed online now and then.

I got my truck from the state of Kentucky- had to go down to Frankfort. I’ve bought a few things from IU and a camper shell from Indy as well.

I have found the quickest way to find what you want is to buy your second or third choice.
FaceBook is full of scammers. Same for almost any internet platforms. When steps are taken scammers find a way to bypass them. There is a way to search the internet for like images. It must check properties on the photos and compare that to the images you are viewing. Guys on gun forums talk about it. Unless it is a stock photo but guys will swipe photos and make an add for the whatever using the photos. The internet scan will show duplicate pics.

Stevein,
Speaking of pictures. A few from up north wee summer time pictures. Fully green trees and bushes.
One truck was supposedly being sold in Memphis Pictures had snow in the background.
Yep, some pictures you can tell where it was actually taken. I caught a banned person on here once trying to sneak back in by a picture he posted.

If you are friends with a good used car dealer they can locate what your looking for....if it exists. It exists .. hopefully. I’ve seen a few that really caught my eye but they were 9 or 10 hour round trip to see them in person. There are some that will ship the truck to you, but I’m not “buying a pig in a poke”. Looking for a 2006 to 2010 in grey or silver. I don’t care for white or black (but if it’s the right one I could change my mind. Don’t like red, blue and certainly not gold. SR5 or Limited - doesn't matter Like to keep the miles 200,000 or under. I’d go $15,000 on the right car and right mileage.

Nope... I've seen some (like what omegahunter posted) that has my interest, but dang the ones I like are too far away (momma doesnt travel well) or out of my price range. The lower the mileage the higher the price. Old adage - Its not the year, its the mileage. Just keep hoping somethng will pop up in my tristate area.
