As many of you know I have been working at Clifty Falls State Park for the last few years manning the North gate, selling passes and extolling the virtues of the park to visitors from all points of the compass. I loved the job; it was the first one I'd ever had that was just what it purported to be-- I had one task, one place to be, one thing to do. No constant urging to go faster. No pressure to hurry up and finish so I could go somewhere else and do someone else's job. Showing up on time ( or at all) was noticed and appreciated. During the covid shutdown and for a time at the end of the season I got a chance to work with the maintenance staff, mowing grass and clearing trails, replacing signs and removing trees. A few full time positions came open and I applied for them, but I wasn't picked. But I accepted the disappointment and bided my time.( Besides, if truth be told I liked the gate job). Then out of the blue a few months ago the Park Manager pulled me into his office and said that another job was coming open and that he thought I should apply for it. ( the guy I got passed over for a year earlier had a serious drinking problem and had finally got the boot.) So I did, and I was offered and I accepted the salaried position Of DOC ( Department of Corrections ) supervisor for the Park. My job will be to ferry a work crew from the adjacent women's prison around the park and supervise them as they do various tasks such as cleaning and weedeating. I have some more training to do but will soon be at it. Interestingly, my second day was nearly my last. The assistant manager came up to me looking as if he had seen Death himself and said he needed to see me in his office. I thought I was getting fired, but the reality was almost as bad. A perfect storm of vacations and personal hardships was going to leave the accounting side of the office completely unmanned for two weeks. I was needed to step into the breach. This may sound like nothing to you all, but if I have any talents math is not first on the list. I had a familiarity of how the gate's financial process operated but as far as the reconciliation and accounting end of it, they might as well be asking me to work on the next Lunar lander. So I got about an hour tutorial from the seasonal office help on his last day before becoming an absurd parody of the interim office manager. He was a good teacher, but Lordy... the credit card receipts and daily reports and the bank deposits... I'm on day three of the crisis and to my amazement I think we have the process nearly figured out, though I am still terrified. I think I have aged a year in the past week. Pray for me!

Similar here. There was a weird outbreak of them this spring, but since then not much.

Making an upper age limit for office is a difficult thing. I'd agree that it's probably needed ( a fairly high number ) but more to be rid of the eternal power brokers than from fear of cognitive decline. No one is entirely what they once were at 80, but we all know folks who are still pretty sharp. On the other hand there is a lot to be said for keeping people from staying so long. Maybe a combo of term limits and an upper age limit.

I'm sure you all saw this. One does not need a Medical Degree to see that the poor guy needs some of his connections re-soldered.
Who replaces him?

It was certainly striking. I got a good view of it through the treetops of Clifty as I was leaving the gate.

You know, he may be on to something. ,)
Seriously, I hate em, especially the big ones. Another innovation to save us from ourselves, specifically our inattention to the task at hand.

Glyphosate (roundup and its variants) are only a contact killer, with no residual effect. It will kill anything (unless a tolerance has been developed) that it gets sprayed on. But in 3 weeks or so, you will get a new flush of weeds. Im not as familiar with the trade names any longer, but a call to your local co-op would give you some answers on a residual. Unfortunately, you will most likely need an applicators license to be able to purchase a lot of the “good stuff”, unless you can get some from a local farmer with that applicators license. Pramitoll has always been the nuclear option when you want nothing to grow whatsoever, but surprised you can get that over the counter so to speak. If you can, more power to you and happy spraying. Do you notice that the new "flush of weeds" seems to contain taller grass like foxtail, and a few types of tall weeds tHt did not seem to be there before? It's as if the weeds send in the grenadiers after the expendable troops are wiped out.

This dude wrote an angry working man's anthem that has garnered 11 million views on youtube in six days. Three of his songs are in the Itunes top ten, including the top spot.
Predictably, because it questions the government and mentions welfare, the song is labeled 'right-wing.'
Being fed up with the current state of affairs is fringe thinking, we are told. No one will respond to a truth teller these days-- you can't get away with speaking facts.
I think this guy's meteoric rise proves that perception is illusory.

I don't understand. The tech simply isn't there. They are pushing this so hard when a two-second consideration reveals a host of real problems.
1. Battery tech isn't even close to good enough in terms of weight or charging capacity. Some physicists say that current battery tech is impossible to improve by much.
2. Infrastructure isn't there. Limited charging stations that are often broke and will be continually outpaced by the number of cars needing them for years. Imagine the 130 million Americans that drive to work all needing to have their vehicles charged tomorrow morning? How many cars are in and out of a gas station in ten minutes? what if they all stayed 30 minutes apiece?? Imagine the strain on the electrical grid that can't keep up in many cases now.
3. Home considerations, really part of #2... Me, my wife, and son all drive to work. who gets left off the charger? Are there cords strung all over the yard when you don't have a four-car garage or even a one car? who pays for the massive electrical upgrades to the majority of houses? As beermaker noted, what about housing complexes?
4. ad infinitum
No one could consider a rapid switch to all-electric cars feasible, which begs the question, why are so many doing it, eh?

It seems like uploading pics to the site is unreasonably difficult from a computer. I use imgur but it's always "guess the format." I wish proboards would put a direct upload option so you could just go to your files and upload it. That's early 2000's level tech!
Maybe I'll try Tapatalk again. It didn't work well last time but that was a phone or two ago. Maybe the Iphone I inherited from my son will like it better.

There is a delete option on top right of post . Sorry greg I must be blind, I went back through the edit sequence and didn't see a delete button. You are not alone. For some reason, the delete option shows on my phone but not always on the laptop.

Cocaine Turtle, coming to theaters soon!
If only some photoshop pro could swap the cougar for a turtle in that infamous deer-dragging pic that made the rounds.

I got a hawk eating something or other, a coyote, a buck, and a glimpse of the old doe with a spot on her head that has to be 7 or 8 years old by now.
